Audio Review : Deeppavali - Tantalizing songs to please!

Producer: Lingusamy N
Director: Ezhil S
Cast: Jayam Ravi, Bhavana
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Singers:  Kay Kay, Swetha, Vijay Yesudas, Anuradha Sriram, Madhu Shree, Haricharan, Maya, Yuvan Shankar Raja

Ezhil is renowned for his affinity for fine music. All his previous film tracks have been a major success and he wishes to tread on the same line of triumph with his next release ‘Deeppavali’. Ezhil manages to hook Yuvan Shankar Raja for delivering the music. The soundtrack of this flick includes five different tracks that completely vary from each other. Vijay Yesudas, KK, Haricharan and Madhusree sing to the tunes of Yuvan. Three different lyricist including Na Muthukumar, Kabilan and Yugabharathi have penned the songs.

The track unfolds with ‘Dol Bhaje’ sung by KK and Swetha. Yuvan appears to be greatly inspired from sassy Punjabi bhangra numbers. The song starts on an unhurried note but adds speed as it follows. An alap in the middle is quite remarkable and sly use of stringed instruments imparts a different appeal.

Madhusree and Anuradha Sriram croon ‘Kannan Varum Velai’. This song is steeped in supple Carnatic melody. The instrumentation is kept minimal so that the vocals of the singers don’t suffer. Yuvan does wonders with the tunes. Anuradha Sriram woos the listeners with her soft, supple tone.

Next trails ‘Kadhal Vaithu’ which is a mushy love track jazzed up with western beats. Yuvan infuses peppy beats to add extra zing but takes care that the lyrics don’t suffer. Vijay Yesudas’ rendition of this track is touching. This one is a sure chartbuster!

The next number in store is ‘Thoduven’, a track drenched in honey. It is a very sparkling number assisted by a lively chorus. It is a zany track that drips with energy. Haricharan croons with great easiness and flamboyance. Yuvan proves his versatility once again. Maya is also good in this track.

The last one to follow is ‘Pogathae’ where we finally get to hear Yuvan. He croons out this track in his typical Anglicized hum accompanied by energetic thumps, fine accord and brilliant harmonization. Na Muthukumar’s lyrics are in accordance with youthful minds. A very groovy track that will certainly rock the listeners.

A very sassy album that readily appeals to the ears. A modestly fit album!
