Expectations on ‘Karutha Pakshikal’ have to be high, as it has Mammootty in the lead role. He had had a great time last year and has enjoyed reasonably success this year too. As if to showcase his versatility yet again, he is playing the role of a person who earns his living by ironing other people’s cloths. Padmapriya plays his ladylove in this film produced by Vallabhan and directed by Kamal.
The film tells about a man from a slum who earns a living by ironing cloths. He speaks a mix of Malayalam and Tamil, as he is a Tamilian. He is the leader of the Tamilians living in Kerala. He also looks after his children Mayil, Azhagappan and Malli following the death of his wife. His only dream is to regain his daughter Malli’s eyesight, as she is blind. He does all he can to make his dream come true. However, his life takes a complete ‘U’ turn after a beggar played by Padmapriya comes to his life. In short, the film is all about unconditional love and compassion that people in the slum share.
Actors like Meena, Shreya, Arya, TG Ravi, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salim Kumar, Sreehari, Sreekala, Baby Suhaila, Baby Malavika and Master Tejas also play various important roles in the film. Mohan Sithara has composed the music with lyrics written by Vayalar Sharath Chandra Verma and P Sukumar takes care of the camera works.
