Mahesh Manjrekar once again travel through the ugly paths of crime and murder. This movie ‘Hathyar’ is a sequel to his much acclaimed gangster flick ‘Vaastav’. He continues with the same cast including his National awardee lead player Sanjay Dutt. Anand Raj Anand is in charge of musical department. Lyrics are provided by a bunch of lyricists.

This album starts off with a soft romantic number ‘Chaha Hai Tumhe’. Alka Yagnik sounds intensely romantic in this song. Sanjay Dutt chips in with some dialogues. These don’t make any impact on the listeners. Anand Raj Anand leads this musical symphony with soft playing guitars, violins, saxophones and flutes. Dev Kohli’s words sound great.

Surprisingly this song is followed by another romantic track ‘Yeh Dil Deewana Hai’. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik hold the mike for this rustic love track. Udit Narayan sails smoothly through this usual love number. Alka Yagnik’s voice lacks enthusiasm and she sounds jaded. Praveen Bharadwaj is the lyricist.

Legendary vocalist Asha Bhonsle comes in for a sensuous number ‘Thamba Re Thamba’. It looks like a song from the collection of 80’s cabaret numbers. Anyway Anand Raj Anand gives it a modern feel with his trendy and modern music arrangement. Sarangi is heard throughout this rustic item number. Even the seasoned vocals of Asha Bhonsle fail to give a new lease of life to this song. Mohd.Salamat comes into help her with this unsuccessful task. Praveen Bharadwaj’s unimaginative lyrics are the culprit here.

‘Nazar Nazar’ has Asha Bhonsle in her true self. She sounds playfully naughty right through this song. Music sounds like straight lift from 80’s compositions. But it is the singing of the great singer that makes a difference to this track. Alisha Chinoy croons the remixed version of the same track. She accompanied by a number of background vocalists effectively renders this pop number. Once again Mohd Salamat makes an unimpressive appearance towards the end of the song. To put it short, both these songs are good and demand our attention.

With Sanjay Dutt in the lead tapori number is a must. So Anand Raj Anand cooks up two mandatory mumbaiya tracks for this album. Bali Brahmabhatt raps his way to the first tapori number ‘Baat Hai Kamaal’. Then he hands over the musical baton to Jolly Mukherjee. After going through a number of inevitable twists and turns this song meets with a pathetic culmination in the end.

The other Mumbaiya track ‘Boxer Bhai’ is written, composed and crooned by the tapori track specialist Nitin Raikwar. Sudesh Bhonsle and Vinod Rathod give him company in the rendition of this silly and nonsensical number. This song fails to come anywhere close to the famous ‘Satya’ song ‘Kallu Mama’.

This average album ends with Shloka. Ravindra Sathe chants this invocative musical piece. With its techno based musical arrangement this shloka chanting sounds pathetically horrific.

To sum up, this album sounds like a hurried affair by Anand Raj Anand. Music is familiar and the music director puts in no efforts to make it an innovative musical experience. On the whole this album does not make for a good buy.
