Nandu (Aftab Shivdasani) aspires to become a famous singer. But as his parents are against it he runs away from home to live in Mumbai and build his career. Due to the dearth of finance he is forced to share a room with Anjali (Rimi Sen) and pretend to be married as the landlord (Tiku Talsania) gives his house only to married couples. Though they pose to be sweet in front of the public in reality they are always up in arms against each other. Dulari (Upasana Singh) wife of the owner Popat Seth (Tiku Talsania) thinks that Nandu loves her and she hatches plan to elope with him.
Anjali (Rimi Sen) is a simple girl from a small town who comes to the city in search of a job as she needs money to repay her father’s debts to the creditor or else she’ll have to marry his mentally challenged son Raja (Rajpal Yadav). In spite of her thorough search she gets a job owing to mis-identity. Jeetu (Akshaye Khanna) misunderstands her as the daughter of a very rich man, Radheshyam Tiwari (Paresh Rawal). But here is another catch. Jeetu wants a small investment to make up his business and for that he needs money, as his father is not interested to part with it. The only way open for him is to marry a rich woman. So thinking Anjali as Radheshyam’s daughter he begins wooing her.
Radheshyam Tiwari (Paresh Rawal) has come to the city and leaves in his big bungalow along with his wife Anjali (Shoma Anand). Jeetu who is very much interested in this house thinking that Anjali lives there visits it often with one excuse or the other and Radhesyam thinks that his wife is having a fling with this young man. The confusion had to be there with two Anjali in one film. Jeetu drives Anjali home everyday and Radheshyam’s wife Anjali spots her several times in their premise and thinks that her husband is having an affair with her. Soon the situation becomes such that she doesn’t tolerate it anymore and accuses her husband of cheating her.
Anil (Sanjay Narvekar) is a bank employee who wants to marry the only daughter of Kacharaseth (Shakti Kapoor). To impress the girl and her family he pretends to be the son of Radhesyam Tiwari. Kacharaseth meets Radhesyam to talk about the marriage. Owing to confusion with Kacharaseth his wife Anjali thinks that her husband has made a fool of her all his life and has sons and daughters other than their only son
All this confusion leads to Priyadarsan's ‘Hungama’.
What boggle your mind are the sub-plots and so many characters. This leads to half-baked characters who leave many questions to be answered. The detailing is not crisp and most of the time the characters replace logic. Priyadarsan keeps swinging his attention from one character to other leaving other characters and sub-plots unjustified. Nadeem-Shravan's music is just so-so. It’s the comedy and fun that make you forget the qualms at the end of the show.
Aftab excels with his performance and presents a side of him that we have never seen before. Newcomer Rimi Sen speaks through her expressions and this film happens to be a good start for her. Akshaye Khanna as usual is fine. Paresh Rawal looks humorous and after ‘Hera Pheri’ his penchant for comedy just bowls us. Shoma Anand is loud.
