Producer: G V G Raju Director: Uday Shankar Cast: Gopichand, Meera Jasmine, Asish Vidyardhi, Jayaprakash Reddy, MS Narayana, Venu Madhav, Sumitra Music: Mani Sharma
Producer GVG Raju has got into yet another love story with ‘Raraju’ after ‘Godavari’, but this time, he has mixed mass elements with that of action and sentiment. Gopichand of 'Yagnam' and 'Ranam' fame plays the lead role opposite National award winning actress Meera Jasmine in this film directed Udayshankar.
Kali (Gopichand) is a simple man who arranges electrical and mike sets for social functions like marriage. He is a tough guy yet kind at heart. So, everybody in his colony loves him though he is rude at times. An SI from the area always runs after him and even tells people around that she is in love with him but he never cares for her.
In the meantime, a girl by name Jyothi (Meera Jasmine), who earns a living by singing for films, comes to the colony. She tells that she is Kalli’s girlfriend when goons try to attack her. This way, she enters Kalli’s life. Kalli thinks that she is in love with him and gives away his heart to her. However, he learns that she was in love with Surya (Sivaji) who is the son of a peon (Chandrasekhar). They couldn’t appear for IAS exams because of police officer Kotireddy Venkat Reddy (Asish Vidyarthi), who tried to frame them in a brothel case. Thus Jyothi takes shelter in Surya’s house after her stepmother throws her out of her house. Surya dies in an accident yet he lives in Jyothi’s heart. Now, Kali makes a decision to fulfill Jyothi’s dream of becoming an IAS officer. He also teaches Venkat Reddy a big lesson. Surya’s parents force Kali to marry Jyothi but he refuses, as he knows that Surya still lives in her heart.
Gopichand’s performance in the film is simply superb. He has done well in all aspects including action and comedy sequences. Meera Jasmine has done good job but the other heroine Ankita has nothing much to do except for glamour. Shivaji’s role is small yet he has done it sweetly. Venumadhav, MS Narayana and Jayaprakash Reddy have managed to bring the house down. Mani Sharma’s music is fine and so too is Ramnath Setty’s cinematography.
The director has managed to keep the viewers engaged by springing up interesting plots and twist at regular intervals. He deserves a warm pat from the back for mixing action, love and sentimental elements beautifully.
