King of melody Kumar Sanu deviates from music and tries his hands in film production for the first time with 'Utthaan' starring Neha Dhupia and Priyanshu Chatterjee under his banner Kumar Sanu Communication Pvt. Ltd. Ujjwal Chatterjee whose last attempt was ‘Escape From Taliban' wields the baton for this film. Kumar Sanu plays another role as a composer with lyrics contributed by Sudhakar Sharma. However the outcome is not equally overwhelming as one expects it to be.
Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik have rendered many memorable duets in the past and returns back once again with the track 'Ab Neend Kise'. It is a fast paced love song that appears pretty catchy. But going by the trend of the time, the music just doesn’t justify the criteria to make an impact. It appears to be created in the 90s and that’s the biggest setback. Also the remix version won’t be much impressive for the listeners of the time.
Another love song follows as 'Abhi Tum Ho Kamsin' with Sapna Mukesh joining Kumar Sanu this time. It is a melodious and rhythmic song that sounds good to the ears but surely isn’t going to register an impact on your mind.
Asha Bhonsle takes the lead with the title song 'Yeh Kaisa Utthaan Hai'. It is the pick of the album and though it ventures into philosophical route, this situational track sounds good. Both Sudhakar Sharma's lyrics and Kumar Sanu’s music prove worthy here. Also Asha’s voice plays majorly for the goodness of the track. There is a male version of the same track by Sonu Nigam.
The last song of the album is a situational item number 'Thok Dalega'. Hema Sardesai returns to the fore once again with this song. However the track doesn’t have much to offer her and would neither count among the best in her career. It’s a dull number that evokes you to skip it.
The film is not creating any hype for the better prospects and with music as such, chances are very bleak that it would do good business. There is not a single track that is a hit material and it’s a disappointment coming out from the talented Kumar Sanu.
