Producer: Bipin Kumar Vohra
Director: Gautam Ghose
Cast: Nana Patekar, Rekha
Music: Khayyam, Gautam Ghose
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Shuvra Guha, Asha Bhonsle, Aditi Bhattacharya, Jojo, Keya Acharya, Talat Aziz

‘Yatra’ is directed by the acclaimed director Gautam Ghose and has Nana Patekar, Rekha and Deepti Naval in the pivotal role. After 'Umrao Jaan' Rekha will once again play the role of courtesan. The music score is by Khayyam with Ghose also taking care of the music department. The scores are purely Indian classical music and thus it is aimed for a niche section of music listeners.

But things look gleaming as Asha Bhonsle wields the mike once again after ages for Rekha, bringing the nostalgia of the old songs of ‘Umrao Jaan’ in our mind. 'Jaam-e-Mohabbat' as the track is called is ghazal and mujra merged in one. Ahmed Wasi’s shayari embellish the track. Rekha narrates a few lines in between. A traditionalist composition by Khayyam, who doesn’t intent to mould it with commercial ingredients.

'Aap To Mere Hi Khwabon' returns with Ahmed Wasi and Khayyam, but this time singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik replacing Ashaji. It is beautiful love duet with the musical arrangements giving the hint of a bygone era. Without the use of modern technology, it is hard for a song as such to get any due in today’s music scene.

The voice singing 'Saaz-e-Dil-Nagma-e-Jaan' seems reminiscent to you until you discover that it is Talat Aziz who is heard after a long time. It is complex semi-classical song but Talat Aziz renders it effortlessly. The lyrics are by Naqsh Lyalpuri. While here is another gleaming track for the lovers of classical music, the conventional music lovers won’t lap it.

'Madhur Madhur' is a folksy track by the team of Asha Bhonsle and Khayyam. The song has an eastern flavor with light beats and flute making as the prominent instruments. The poetic versus is by Maya Govind and here is another track for quality music followers.

The next track takes you by surprise. The remix version of 'Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar' with western beats makes you jump with shock when you first find it in an album of this nature. The music is set by Goutam Ghose with female singer Jojo rendering the track. From here follows the tracks composed by Goutam Ghose. But one thing that runs throughout is the traditional and classical music.

'Tadpe Bin Baalam' is rendered by Shuvra Guha and is a raga-based song. This follows Ustad Rashid Khan's 'Garaje Ghata' and 'Biya Biya', both are traditional tracks to be preferred by the seekers of Indian classical music once again rendered by Shuvra Guha.

Keya Acharya’s 'Panchhi Pinjre Se' is a break from the classical music style and thus has something to offer to the commoners.

'Dareja Dareja' is Shuvra’s next based on 'bhairon thumri'. It is a classical track with the 'mujra' setting. The lyrics are for the elites, difficult to understand by the commoners.  Shuvra follows with her next titled 'More Ankhiyan Bhool Gayi' based on 'pilu thumri'. She does a duet with Aditi Bhattacharya for 'Jaoji Na Karo', a 'mishra khamaj'.

Khayyam fails to evoke a pleasing score unlike 'Umrao Jaan’, which in spite of the classical element had some ingredients for the general audience. The album follows the nature of the film and is for the followers of Indian classical music.
