Sivaji started off in films by doing small roles but his wonderful performance as an innocent husband in ‘Missamma’ had placed him in the hot list. He then went on to do a few films including ‘Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishna Murthy’, ‘Mr Yerrababu, Adirindayya Chandram’ and others. His attempt to become a mass hero through ‘Sitaramudu’ did not bear much fruit. So, he is turning back to his usual roles with ‘Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila’.

Tata (Sivaji) and his friend Birla (Krishna Bhagawan) live without any botheration by stealing money. They learn that someone is planning a big deal with a Mumbai goon for Rs.30 lakh, and so, they kidnap the goon and enter the deal with the other party. Gajapati (Tanikella Bharani) is a big realtor whose protégé Ratnam (Jeeva) has turned against him. His foster daughter Mahalaxmi has a very kind heart and loves him very much. Mahalaxmi loses her parents when she is at a tender age, and thus Gajapati brings her up. Her father makes a will that his daughter turns the owner of the whole property.

Tata and Birla get employment in Gajapati's house and they are loyal to Mahalaxmi. Gajapati plans to do away with Mahalaxmi in order to inherit the property and thus tells Tata and Birla to kill her. Tata and Mahalaxmi are in love by now, and thus Tata and Birla decide to save her. At this juncture, Ratnam also decides to take revenge on Gajapati by killing Mahalaxmi. He sends Masthan (Ali) to Gajapati’s family in a woman's attire as Laila with the intention of killing Mahalaxmi. However, Tata and Birla come to know that Laila is none other another petty thief by name Masthan. Now, the people who are entrusted to kill the particular girl are up in arms to save her. In the end, Gajapati comes to know that Mahalaxmi loves him as a father and ends with a happy ending.

Sivaji and Krishna Bhagawan have done justice to their roles and Laila, who is known in traditional characters, has done good job. It is Laila’s last film and she seems to have saved the best for the last. Ali is good in girl’s attire and his voice modulation is excellent. Brahmanandam's role as a cop is also hilarious. The technical aspect of the film is also good. Srilekha's music is good and so too is Anji’s camera work and Nagireddy's editing. There are entertainment elements all through the film.

Director Srinivas Reddy deserves warm pat from the back for coming out with such an entertainer with various elements like love, sentiment, comedy, action and professional rivalry. He knows how to keep the audience glued to their seats. Good words of mouth could do wonders for the film.
