Audio Review : Shiva - Goes for a decent hearing

Life has come as a circle for Ram Gopal Verma as he remakes his 1990 original film ‘Shiva’ in a contemporary manner with Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari in the lead. This will be his directorial film, which grounds the battle between good and evil. He once again opts for composer Ilaiya Raaja who has composed the music of the original version too with Nitin Raikwar penning the lyrics.

‘Jagdi Ja’ was a hit track from the Nagarjuna and Amla starrer. It finds its place again in the new version as ‘Police Police’. Though it’s a situational number there is lots of fun and mirth that it carries with it. The lyrics surely catch your attention for being frivolous in nature. Shweta Pandit lends her exuberance to the number along with actor Ninad Kamat. The singers do a fine job in this innovative and different number.

Ilaiya Raaja infuses his melodious best to the love track ‘Dheemi Dheemi'. It is a vintage Ilaiya Raaja number with high-grade orchestra, melodious feel and a soothing effect. Shreya Ghoshal comes up with a fantastic rendition, taking a leap from the work that she has done in the past. It is a classy number that will leave its impact on you.

Next follows another love duet ‘Kaise Kahen’ with Sadhna Sargam and Roop Kumar Rathod at the helm. Both the singers are heard after a long time and it is a refreshing change. Though the track is good yet it has a vintage feel of the 90s. But good melody makes up for it. Another lovely track for your ears.

Yesudas who has been heard crooning soft melodies goes for a toss and surprises you with ‘Josh Mein’ a highly energetic number. His voice tallies with the pace, rhythm, energy and variety of instruments. The track is more apt as a background score in the film.

For an action film as such, one least expects to hear love songs. But here appears the third love track of the album. ‘Saara Yeh Aalam’ has a soothing classical feel to it and has been sung extremely well by Shreya Ghoshal and Roop Kumar Rathod. The South Indian fervor of composition would suit those who’ve such taste of music.

The last track of the album is by the maestro himself. Ilaiya Raja comes behind the mike for 'Shapath' another situation track of the album. Good lyrics by Nitin Raikwar catch your ears. The song may be justified with the film but lacks hearing appeal.

The soundtrack of ‘Shiva’ goes for a decent hearing. The pick of the lot are 'Dheemi Dheemi', 'Police Police' and 'Kaise Kahen' while other numbers are more opt for situation in the film. RGV is not stressing more on the audio promotion and thus there is very less chance that the film’s music will find a fair deal with the audience.
