Nikhil Kapoor (Sanjay Suri) is an MBA graduate from Boston who returns back to India after five years to escape the death of his parents in an accident. He meets Anamika Joshi (Urmila Matondkar) at a nightclub in Mumbai and life changes for him forever. Anamika is intelligent, colorful and an attractive civil engineer by profession. She lives all alone in Mumbai and is optimistic about her life. She fell in love with businessman Rahul Kher (Jimmy Shergill) but her past never lets her go. Rahul is an introvert but sensible guy who cherishes art. He and Nikhil are friends, have been together through school and college and share many things in common. After Nikhil comes back to India they chill out together along with another friend Steve D Douza (Rehaan Engineer). Steve is successful in life but hates doing his father’s builders business. This in turn has made him alcoholic and his marriage to Ira (Juhi Chawla) is going through a rough phase. Ira prefers working at the old age home before she left her modeling profession for Steve. One day Nikhil visits a pub where he meets Anamika again. There begins a brawl and after sometimes Nikhil finds him hearing a shot with a gun in his hand. Something unalterable has happened that changes the life of all for once and all. 
 
The film is a story of these five people who are bond by incidents that change their lives. All of them have a secret in their heart and revealing it can change their relationships. The film is set in the milieu of Mumbai and explores the complexities of modern urban relationships. The film is a journey of revelations, passions, jealousies, insecurities, love and anger, as all of them search for that elusive moment of happiness.
