Though Onir's 'My Brother Nikhil' that released last year wasn’t a commercial hit yet the acclaims of the critics did wonders for his career. The team of the film comprising him, Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla comes together again for his next presentation ‘Bas Ek Pal’ along with Jimmy Shergill, Juhi Chawla and Urmila Matondkar. Also the musical team of the former film repeats itself here as composer Vivek Phillip and lyricist Amitabh Verma team up with other composers like Mithoon and Pritam with Sayeed Quadri as a guest lyricist.

The first song of the album gets the dance floor on fire with the high-spirited renditions of K.K.and Sunidhi Chauhan singing ‘Hai Ishq Ye Kya Ek Khata’. Energetic, catchy and laced with sensible lyrics, it differs it from the ilk item numbers. Set to tune by Pritam this high charged number is influenced by rock, western arrangements and power packed performances by the singers but changes its essence soon, giving the message to enjoy life, loud and clear. Watch out for this song as it soars up in popularity in the coming days.

After delivering rocking performances with ‘Woh Lamhe’ and ‘Aadat’, singer Atif Aslam returns back to the scene with ‘Tere Bin’. The song is enroute to the former track in verve and energy. Mithoon and Sayeed Quadri are at the helm of affairs and come with this terrific track. Atif exuberates lots of pain through his voice as he goes through the lines about separation from loved ones. It is a superb composition that needs to be promoted well. Follows a bouncing with life remix number by Eric Pillai that’ll leave you astounded.

Amitabh Verma's lyrics hints at the sad lining in the song ‘Zindagi Hosh Mein’ but Vivek Phillip’s music doesn’t let the track sink and drip. He infuses lively western musical instrument in the tracks and makes it breathe with life. It sounds more like a pop number and is rendered by K.K. and Zubeen Garg. There is another remix version done by Eric Pillai and sung solo by Zubeen.

The mood swings to somber appeal with the title song ‘Bas Ek Pal’. This one has the essence of Pakistani pop and is sung by Dominique Cerejo and K.K. with music by Mithoon and lyrics that do a world of good to it. It is a well-etched, classy and rhythmic number that adds to the positive aspects of the album. The remix version also moves in equilibrium of the album and is a feat.

A romantic number appears next with ‘Ashq Bhi’ with K.K., Sunidhi Chauhan and Vivek Philip at the helm. The zeal in the songs so far gives way to some light and floaty music with guitar and Spanish music. A lovely modern romantic piece for a different outing.

Last of the number ‘Dheemey Dheemey’ follows with the same essence of the former number. It is a romantic rock ballad with similar mood and feel. Again something urban and chic, that will surely delight you.

The verdict is that 'Bas Ek Pal' is a contemporary and urban album very much in sync with the premise and mood of the film. The songs stand out because of their unusual appeal. It is not one of those formulaic stuff and Vivek Philip, Mithoon and Pritam deserves a pat on their back for this different offering.
