It looks like whatever A R Rahman touches will turn into gold. He has composed good music for the album of ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’ too. You will hear fresh voices in it besides the music composer’s own voice. The film has Suriya, Jyothika and Bhoomika in the lead roles. K.E. Gnanavel produces it on Studio Green banner and Krishna directs it.
The album starts with a perfect number titled “Kummi Adi”, which has peppy beats and rhythms. Sirkazhi Siva Chidambaram’s open-throated voice suits the number and Swarnalatha has given the soft touch. Naresh Iyer, Theni Kunjarammal and Vignesh also have contributed to the song. Rahman’s sneak mix has given a special western feel to the number.
Rahman tries to let the romantic lyrics do the talking in “Munbe Vaa” by using less instrumentation. It begins with Shreya Ghoshal’s husky voice followed by Naresh Iyer’s gentle rendition. This number goes straight to the heart. “Maaza Maaza” is a song about the pangs of love. It has heavy instrumentation yet the music and lyrics get along so well. The fusion of SPB Charan and Shreya Ghoshal’s voices makes a pleasant listening. Rahman's intelligent mix has made all the difference to the number. The music director deserves praises for coming out with this youthful song and choosing the right guys to render it.
“Machakari” is a racy number with western feel. Vasundhra Das and energetic Shankar Mahadevan have rendered it quite well. Peppy beats and good use of percussion instruments have added spice to the number. The music director is at ease with this kind of music and the way he changes the rhythm of this song is commendable.
“A New York” is a melody with soft lyrics, western touch and heavy rhythms. A R Rahman has not only composed soothing tunes and music but also has sung it with equal impression. It is a good number that stays with you.
“Maaricham” is a fast number with high-pitched tunes. Carolisa has sung it well with good support from Mohammad Aslam and Krishna. The beats, the rhythms and lyrics get along quite well. The good use of guitar and drums has made the song even better. However, it is Rahman's good orchestration that deserves special mention.
“Jillunu Oru Kaadal” is the title song of the film and pick of the album. The music director seems to have taken outmost care to make sure that it hits off well with the listeners. Vaali's touching lyrics along with Rahman’s groovy music and catchy chorus has made the song even better. Tanvil has rendered it so well. This number will steal your heart before your very eyes.
Well, the music maestro is back with a bang. Music lovers will go crazy on hearing the tunes of this album.
