Filmmakers have already made several films based on armed forces but ‘Keerthi Chakra’ would be different, as Major Ravi who had served in Kashmir is bringing in all his real life experiences into reel for all to see through this film. He knows the life of army personnel better and he has also roped in real life senior officers from the BSF, CRPF and Kashmir Police for various roles to give a different kind of treat to the audience. Mohanlal is playing the role of a commando in this film after a gap of 16 years.

The film tells about the life of armed forces, their commitment towards the country, the risks they take to outwit the terrorists, the mental stress they go through and the strong bonds amongst themselves. They wish to be with their near and dear ones at home but their responsibility towards the nation keeps them away. Mohanlal plays the role of Major Mahadevan in the film. His emotional relationship with Havildar Jeeva, played by Tamil actor Jeeva is also portrayed in the film.

The director said that he has tried to show the life of the people in barracks in a different angle through the film. Major portion of the film was shot in Kashmir. It also features actors like Biju Menon, Shammi Thilakan, Cochin Haneefa, Spadikam George, Reema Sen, Gopika and Baby Sanusha. R B Chowdhary of Super Good Films produces it, Joshua Sreedhar has composed the music and Thiru is handling the camera. Plans are on to dub it into Tamil too.
