Director Suresh Krishna is known for getting the best out of his music directors. S A Rajkumar is also known for composing good music within his own limits and has wonderful track record. These two have joined hands for the album of ‘Astram’ and they have come out successful. Vishnu and Anushka play the lead roles in this mass masala film produced by Raju Harwani of Supreme Movies banner. The song “Muddu Muddu” gives right momentum to the album. It is a complete mass song with continuous beats and percussions. Anuradha Sriram and Tippu, who specialize in such numbers, have sung it with lots of vigor and energy. The masses will surely dance to the tunes of this number.
“Padahare” is a khawali sort of song with irresistible mushaira feel and the lyrics are in Telugu and Hindi. Roshini and Shreya Ghoshal have rendered it beautifully with their piercing high-pitched voices. The tune sounds familiar yet it is so sweet. It has its own attractive elements like any other khawalis. It could have been even better with good instrumentation.
The number “Sakhiya” starts with a soft note but slowly picks up the rhythm with heavy beats and orchestration. Karunya and Shivani have rendered it with lots of energy. It would have been better if not for its mediocre instrumentation.
“Undipo Nesthama” is a melodious number beautifully sung by Chitra. The music director lets the sweet tunes of the song do the talking by not using too much instrument. Rajesh also has sung well.
The alap that marks the start of the number “Prema Kanna” is soulful. The swara pattern is also good but the spoil game begins when heavy beats enter. It has interludes that are good in parts and Rajesh has rendered it with lots of vigor. This song is worth listening.
“Raa Chilaka” is a soothing mass number that provides valid reason for listeners to swing to its tunes. The ever-energetic Shankar Mahadevan and Sujatha have rendered it beautifully.
To sum up, this is a good album. S A Rajkumar has lived up to the expectations.
