The music is by Sukhwinder and the lyrics are penned by Babu Singh Maan. This big budget film worth Rs. 200 million has been shot extensively in Europe and at Ladakh, Manali and Punjab in India. There is a marathon cast of 30 actors in the film with 100 Indian crewmembers and 50 from the European. The supporting cast consists of senior artists from theater and modeling world and few perpetrators have been hired from Bulgaria and Uzbekistan.

There is a buzz that Sunny will have grey shades in this film. Glamorous actress Sana will play an Afghani girl in the film. The premise of the film is said to be a true story inspired by the 1996 Malta boat tragedy, which claimed the life of over 290 people on Christmas Day, most of them being Indians. The misfortune struck due to bad weather conditions when 283 immigrants out of 450 from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were transferred from the boat Yiohan carrying hundreds of fleeing migrants across the Mediterranean to Italy to another boat. But before the people could be transferred two boats collided sending the Yiohan with most of the immigrants inside it to the bottom of the sea. It was the biggest maritime disaster in the Mediterranean since the Second World War. ‘Kaafila’ probes for the very first time the unexplored theme of the dark side of the illegal immigration.. This mammoth venture is a touching story and tells the saga of the mad rush of the people deciding to leave their own lands in search of their utopian dreams of a better life abroad in developed countries. These people put their lives, families and careers at stake to get their desired goals. The film also depicts their sufferings at foreign terra firmas. Ammtoje Mann clarifies that the film is not a direct representation of the tragedy but deals with issue of illegal immigrants.
