Movie Review : Adavi Biddalu

Producer: R.Narayana Murthy
Director: R.Narayana Murthy
Cast: R.Narayana Murthy, Muralimohan
Music: R.Narayana Murthy

R.Narayana Murthy is the one-man army of ‘Adavi Biddalu’, which deals with Adivasis. He provided the story, screenplay, composed the music, directs and produces it besides playing the lead role. He has tried to expose the problems faced by the lower sections of the society through the film.

Ramakanth (Narayana Murthy), an IAS officer works for the Integrated Tribal Development Agency that looks into the problems of the Girijans and Adivasis and works for their welfare. The Adivasis who cultivate land in the forest through Podu cultivation have no pattas for those lands. Now, a land-grabber grabs the chance and gets the land mortgaged to himself by lending money to the tribals. He gets most of the crop cultivation as interest. He is then elected as MLA though he is not a tribal.

Meanwhile, government wants to construct Rampa dam, a multi-purpose project to provide irrigation as well as drinking water to the people. So, Ramakanth is asked to study the feasibility of the project. He learns that it will adversely affect the tribals, as they can’t claim compensation with no pattas for the land they are cultivating and even the land that have pattas are mortgaged to the moneylenders. Now, he recommends the government to arrange land pattas and return the pattas to the tribals that are mortgaged with the money lenders before taking up the project. The rest of the film is whether he succeeds in his endeavor.

Narayana Murthy’s character has two shades and he has done them convincingly. He seems to have gone into the skin of the character. Murali Mohan also plays a small role in it.  Narayana Murthy has composed some soothing music. He also has successfully thrown light on the life of the tribals through the film.

In short, it is a film with a message and worth watching.
