Movie Review : Dongodi Pelli

Producer: Pratap Singh
Director: Kodi Ramakrishna
Cast: Jalak Nandini, Rajendra Babu, Ratna Bathal
Music: Rajkiran

Experience can be of great help but one has to keep in pace with the changing times when it comes to filmmaking. Director Kodi Ramakrishna is a perfect example. His latest film ‘Dongoli Pelli’ is lashed with commercial formula but it doesn’t seem to work anymore. His slow narration has let the film down. Rajendrababu, former Miss Gujarat Ratna Bhattal and Jhalak Nandini are playing the lead roles in the film. Rajendrababu plays the role of a thief with a good heart. He is wanted for hundreds of cases but police can’t arrest him, as there is no prove of his robbery.

A person named Mandela Seshu kills a realtor and Ratna Prabha (Ratna Bhattal) is a special CBI officer. The police would solve many cases if they could get hold of Seshu's mobile SIM cards, as they contain the numbers with whom he contacts regularly. He hides them in a talisman that is tied around his neck.

It was Masaraiah (Kota Srinivasa Rao) who kills the realtor through Seshu. He is a politician with links to the underworld thugs and land mafia. He makes his son (Prithvi) marry Prabha fearing her threats. In the meantime, Abu (Nischal) is trying to get Seshu’s SIM cards with the help of Raju (Rajendrababu) and uses Rekha (Jhalak Nandini) to lure Seshu. He manages to get the SIM cards and runs into Prabha’s wedding ceremony while trying to escape from the police. Circumstances make him marry Prabha. Raju comes to know that Rekha has cheated him. This makes him to kidnap Seshu in order to find evidence to bail his wife out and save her from embarrassment. However, Masaraih's men kill Seshu, yet he manages to videotape his statement before breathing his last. He later catches Rekha and gets the SIM cards. He kills Masaraiah and his men and happiness abounds in the end.

Rajendrababu has once again failed to make a convincing comeback. He has lots of scope to improve as far as histrionics and body language are concerned. Ratna Bhattal is fine as a CBI officer and Jhalak Nandini has given what she is supposed to give and that is glamour. Kota Srinivasa Rao and Prithvi have performed well. Satyam Rajesh, Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao and LB Sriram’s comedy track manages to make the viewers laugh aloud. Rajkiran has composed a couple of good tunes and Kodi Laxman’s cinematography is fine.

However, Kodi Ramakrishna’s old style of narration would not go down well with the current generation. It’s a film for old people.
