Priyadarshan the King of Comedy is back with another laugh riot- Chup Chup Ke. This one is not merely a comedy flick. It addresses the problems faced by educated and jobless Indians. This movie has a universal appeal. The first half of the movie is funny and the second half is serious.

The story goes like this. Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) is a jobless lad who is in debt. Whenever he tries to clear off the debts he lands up in more debt. There is only one way left before him. If he dies his father can repay his debts with his insurance amount. So he jumps in to the sea to save himself and his family from creditors. But unfortunately he gets fished out by two fishermen Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav).

He lands up in the house of the Gujarati businessman Prabhat Singh  (Om Puri). Jeetu pretends to be deaf and mute. Unfortunately Prabhat Singh’s niece Shruti (Kareen Kapoor) turns out to be a mute girl. She and her friend sympathize with him. This sympathy turns to love. Shruti’s over protective brother (Sunil Shetty) happily arranges their marriage, but on one condition Jeetu has to leave his family and stay with Prabhat Singh. Jeetu is ready to do anything to come out of his debts.  So he agrees to the condition put forth by Shruthi’s brother. Prabhat Singh and his family pay off Jeetu’s debts.

Then comes the most trying part in Jeetu’s life. His father and his former fiancé come in search of him on his wedding day.  He has to make a choice- his family or his newfound love. This is one of the most emotional scenes in the scenes in this movie.  But everything clears out in the end.

The strength of this movie is the acting prowess of its lead characters. Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and Shahid Kapoor compete with each other. Rajapl Yadav is the winner in the first half. His comic timing is very perfect. Even his dialogue delivery is excellent.

Paresh Rawal lives the character. His appearance itself is very comic. Even Shahid Kapoor comes up with one of the best performance of his life. Om Puri as always is superb in the role of a crooked Gujarati businessman. Kareena Kapoor looks gorgeous. She does her part well. Sunil Shetty fits in to the role of an over protective brother who will do anything for his sister.

This movie gives Neha Dhupia a chance to showcase her talent and she does it well. Sushma Reddy who plays the role of the fiancé of Jeetu plays her part well.  Anupam Kher is superb.  Shakti Kapoor is entertaining.  Catch the dialogues between Rajpal Yadav and Shakti Kapoor, they’re hilarious. It is one of the best comic scenes in this movie. Manoj Joshi and Asrani perform brilliantly.

The dialogues are very witty. The comic situations seem real. The story is a perfect blend of comedy and melodrama. In the second half the story jumps back and forth from comedy to drama. But Priyadarshan handles it well. Music by Himesh Reshammiyya gels very well with the theme of the story.

On the whole, Chup Chup Ke is one of the fine creations from Priyadarshan. The way he blends both comedy and melodrama is worth applause. This Priyadarshan movie is a complete entertainer.
