Audio Review : Reshammiyya Rocks

Director: Priyadarsan
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav
Music: Himesh Reshammiyya
Lyrics: Sameer

Priyadarshan has a penchant for music. Most of the songs in his films are situational and are an inseparable part of the story. His songs have a picturesque background with colorfully dressed dancers dancing around.

In this album Priyadarshan teams up with Himesh Reshammiyya and Sameer. Reshammiyya and Sameer are the men behind all the popular tunes you hear today. Reshammiyya has worked with Priyadarshan earlier in movie ‘Kyon Ki’. But the partnership then didn’t work This time around the story is different. Whatever Reshammiyya touches turns to gold. So the fate of the songs in this album is already decided.

This album has five songs and others are remixed version.  The first song ‘Shabe Firaq Hai’ is a simple dance number. Himesh Reshammiyya sings this one along with his lucky co- singer Tulsi Kumar. With its good lyrics and unique picturisation this is going to sell like hot cakes. This medium paced song is a good mix of eastern western and Indian music. The remix by Akbar Sami is lot faster and energetic. A special mention has to be made of the video director Kookie.V. Ghulati.

‘Dil Vich Laga Ve’ has four singers crooning- Himesh Reshammiyya, Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjanwala and Akriti Kakkar. Reshammiyya starts the proceedings and then comes Sonu, Akriti and Kunal. All of them have given their best to the song. It is a dance number picturised on Shahid Kapoor. This song is Indian in soul with a modern feel. The Akbar Sami version of the song is rocking. He has turned it to a western number.

K.K and Sunidhi Chauhan sings the next track ‘Ghoomar’. It is based on the Gujarati and Rajastani Folk songs. Reshammiyya has given it contemporary feel to it with his music. This is another dance number which will make you shake your legs.

Next song ‘Aaya re’ is a typical Reshammiyya number. Kunal Ganjanwala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Arya sing this track. The remix version is swifter and more energetic.

‘Tumhi Se’ is a surprise song from Reshammiyya. He is not known for this kind of melody. This is an outright romantic number in the voices of Vijay Yesudas and Shreya Ghosal. Vijay Yesudas, son of K.J.Yesudas, is heard for the first time in hindi. He is a popular singer in southern India. Both the singers, Vijay and Shreya, keeps the feel of the song intact. This is a soft, soothing song you would love to listen over and over again. The remix is also very effective.

‘Mausam Bada Qatil’ takes you back to 60’s. Sonu Nigam who has a talent for soft songs sings this one. Reshammiyya has done a great job again.

All together this album is a hit. It has some good foot-tapping numbers and some soft melodious songs. Those who have liking for the Reshammiyya music will be bowled over by this album. Finally Priyadarshan can let a sigh of relief. His film’s music will be played all over India. Once again Reshammiyya comes out as a winner.
