Movie Review : Naalai

Producer: S.Nallamuthu
Director: Udayabhanu Maheshwaran
Cast: Richard, Nataraj Subramanian, Madhumitha, Nasser
Music: Karthik Raja

Films on gangsters have become the order of the day in Kollywood of late. ‘Naalai’ is also a film based on the friendship between two gangsters. Debutante director Udayabhanu Maheshwaran has decided to take up the challenge of dealing with the rapport of two people who are considered anti-social elements.

Justin (Richard) and Nattu (Naatraj) are orphans and work as Nair’s (Nasser) henchmen. They are very obedient and loyal to their master. However, Nair begins to lost trust in them and tries to kill them with the help of some young guys. Thus Justin lands up in prison and Nattu loses his leg. Justin gets scot-free after serving in prison for three long years. He and Nattu decide to lead a normal and peaceful life. In the meantime, Justin falls in love with a girl by name Charu (Madhumitha) and decides to tie the knot.

Now, a reformed Nair begs Justin and Nattu for forgiveness before his breathes his last. However, henchmen kill Charu on their attempt to kill Justin. The rest of the film is on how Justin and Nattu take revenge on their enemies.

Richard has done the role of a gangster quite well though his previous films are associated with romantic elements. Nataraj has played his character with lots of ease and his dialogue delivery is brilliant. Madhumitha suits the role of Richard’s girlfriend and Nasser’s role as a villain is also commendable. The technical aspect of the film is also cool with good music by Karthik Raja.

On the whole, it’s a good thriller films that would make the audience sit up till the end.
