Audio Review : Naalai – Old is gold

Producer: S.Nallamuthu
Director: Udayabhanu Maheshwaran
Cast: Richard, Nataraj Subramanian, Madhumitha, Nasser
Music: Karthik Raja
Singers: Ranjith, Ritta, Tippu, Malgudi Subha Karthik

Music director Karthikraja has been away from limelight for quite some time but he seems to have not lost touch with music. He has once again scored some brisk and melodious numbers for the album of this film. This album has all the ingredients to take him to greater heights. The film has Richard, Madhumitha and Nasser in the lead roles. Grey Films banner produces it and Udhayabanu Mageswaran is the director.

The album starts with a brisk and rocking number titled “Kattabomman”. Tippu has sung it brilliantly. The fusion of percussion and the heavy instruments would make you feel warm even on a cold morning. The number is also accompanied by good lyrics.

“Naalai Indha kalam” is the title song of the film. Music director Karthikraja seems to be inspired by his father Ilayaraja in this song. He has used alapana beautifully in between and less instruments are used to make the lyrics do the talking. Karthik has sung this melodious number beautifully but Tippu is not so impressive here.

The number “Idhu Maya Logam” rocks really hard. It is a fast and peppy number beautifully rendered by Malgudi Subha with enigmatic appeal. Ranjith and Tippu have given good company. The music director has moved away from melody here. This number is sure to hit the chart-busters hard.

“Arai Adi Thorathil” is a western influenced song with use of guitars and drums all through. The music director has somehow got the momentum right and has bank on singers Ranjith and Rita to lift it.

“Oru Matram” is a romantic song with soft music and catchy lyrics. This kind of songs suits both Karthik and Karthikraja, as they have good taste for melody. They have proved their prowess, one in composing melody numbers and one in rendering it.

Karthikraja has shown that he is on the way to stardom by coming with this album with variety.
