‘Krrish’ begins where ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’ ended, and it is because the former is the sequel of the latter. It is a Hindi film starring Hrithik Roshan being dubbed into Tamil with the same title. The sequel is in fact built on the original. The innocent and clean Rohit who inherited powers from an alien exits and a longhaired macho Krishna enters. The common link - both have indefinable powers beyond the understanding of common man. Krishna is the son of Rohit who dies in an accident. To hide his super-high IQ and powers that makes people raise eyebrows, his grandmother Rekha takes him away to a village away from the eyes of the people. And the film begins.
Rekha decides to home-school him after the school principle tells her about his super intelligence. Krishna mingles generally with kids and is unaware of his powers in spite of living with them. While loitering in the jungles he saves Priya (Priyanka Chopra) from falling scampering the trees. Priya thinks him to be a ghost first but later loses her heart for him. After some song and dance she leaves for Singapore, with him following her like a forlorn lover. Here in the turn of events he discovers the devices of an evil scientist (Naseeruddin Shah) and vows to take over him.
‘Krrish’ has Hrithik Roshan smeared all over it. His efforts get reflected through his performance. You see him, feel him, breathe him in all the scenes. From the beginning to the end, racing like a wind, riding a stallion, innocently charming, his strength bursting through his biceps, his infectious smile, singing and dancing in glee, falling in love with the first feminine gaze, romancing like a Romeo – the focus of attention is only him. Portraying a superhero with sheer earnestness and enthusiasm, he steals the show. He is a Tarzan, Superman and Batman all in one and does things that you and me cannot. The final product is spectacular and you just have to raise your thumb up for him all the time! Just like ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’, ‘Krrish’ also lifts you over your feet and makes you fly in this world of wonder, beyond your imagination and you give in to it. Yet you’re untouched by it and the reason is that it doesn’t make you emote for the lack of emotions at play. Still the glamour and glitz daub you all over. There is a dose of half-hearted romance and a few frivolous songs and dances, but there is loads of brilliantly choreographed action, stunts and special effects. The effect-laden scenes just bowl you over. Except that there isn’t enough drama for your soul. Also the chemistry between Hrithik and Priyanka is not high charged to make you sway to it. Some serious editing was also needed on the comic parts. There’s no penetration to the subject matter, things just touch you on the surface. Blame it on the writers of the film. The advertising is on your face, take it or leave it. The music is pretty forgettable and the song sequences will just make you wham. The plot is mediocre and it drags in the first part. Ideas are being borrowed shamelessly from a string of Hollywood brunch.

For ‘Krrish’ the script and direction is not as important as to emphasize on the superhero. Superhero who? Hrithik Roshan! He has played a role that no other actors can do. If there is one choice to play the role of a super hero, it’s go to be him. He earnestly carries the film on his shoulders. He delights with his screen presence and from every angle. Priyanka Chopra don’t show much skills or is it that she isn’t given to do here much. She restricts herself to shrieks, pouts, singing and dancing. She lacks involvement in the character and didn’t look as enthusiastic as she ought to be. Or are we expecting much? You can freak out on Naseeruddin Shah as a megalomaniac scientist. You enjoy his part as much as he is seen enjoying himself doing it. He plays a villain you’ll love to hate. Rekha leaves her mark in her scenes. Even donning gray hairs she looks stunning and fires the screen with her skills.
‘Krrish’ is highly enjoyable no doubt about it, and it’ll cater to the fancies of the kids and Hrithik’s fans as long as they’ll remember it. All in all, the craze about the film will surely light the box office, fetching a blockbuster tag for the Roshan’s!
