Movie Review : Godavari

Producer: G.V.G.Raju
Director: Shekar Kammula
Cast: Sumanth, Kamalini Mukherjee, Neetu Chandra, Kamal Kamaraju
Music: Radhakrishna

Director Shekar Kammula deals with realistic and believable topics all the time, and that is his strength. He has managed to make ‘Godavari’ flow smoothly like the river itself. He has also drive home the point that one has to follow one’s instincts through the film. He is likely to create the magic of ‘Anand’ in ‘Godavari’.

Sriram (Sumanth), an engineer returns from the US. He is a social-minded guy and wants to work for the betterment of the society. He has a soft corner for his sister-in-law Raaji (Neetu Chandra) but she is realistic, matured and has a different plan. She is due to marry Ravindra (Kamal Kamaraju), an IPS officer in Bhadrachalam. So, Sriram too sets out for Bhadrachalam. As fate has it, he meets Seeta (Kamalini Mukherjee) during the journey. They decide to get married. Meanwhile, Raaji knowing Sriram’s goodness requests him to marry her. What will Sriram do now? You will get to know the answer after watching the film.

Sumanth's performance in the film is brilliant. He has gone down deep into the character and it is perhaps his best performance so far. He looks matured and at ease. His fondness for his sister-in-law and his good nature is depicted well. Heroine Kamalini Mukherjee too has done her role well. In fact, her onscreen chemistry with Sumanth is a beauty. Neetu Chandra deserves a special mention for carrying her role so beautifully. Her histrionics are also good. Kamal and other supporting actors too have done their roles well. Its technical aspects are good with excellent cinematography. Radhakrishna’s music is one of the highlights of the film.

On the whole, director Shekar Kammula deserves a pat from the back for making this entertainer. ‘Godavari’ is a good film indeed.
