Audio Review : Ankahee- Music for the soul

Producer: Pritish Nandy
Director: Vikram Bhatt
Cast: Aftab Shivdassani, Esha Deol, Amisha Patel
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Sameer, Amitabh Verma

‘Ankahee’ brings back the era of meaningful poetry in Hindi movie. The veteran lyricist Sameer along with Amitabh Verma and Subrat Sinha creates magic with words. The lyrics are such that it will haunt you forever. ‘Ankahee’ is about relation ships. This movie is a story close to director Vikram Bhatt’s heart.  The lead cast of the movie includes Aftab Shivdasani, Esha Deol and Amisha Patel. Pritam has done the music.

All the songs in this album are special and will woo your heart. Take for instance the first song ‘Ek Pal Ke Liye’. This is a haunting melody with guitar playing in the background. This slow-pitched melody works well with the theme of the movie. K.K puts his whole heart and the result is a fine song.  This song has three versions. One sung by KK, next by Shreya Ghoshal and another by Sonu Nigam. Sonu Nigam has rendered this one finely. With this song he once again reiterates that he is the best in the industry to croon this kind of soft melodies.  Shreya Ghosal version is excellent. It is a sweet, romantic song, finely worded by Amitabh Verma. To be precise Pritam has done wonders with his music. His musical arrangements are so perfect that you wish to listen it over and over again.

Another song in this album 'Tumse Yu Milenge' sung by Kunal Ganjawala is yet another finely worded, melodious song.  It talks about the everlasting love. Kunal’s voice captures the essence of the song. This time the words are of Subrat Sinha. This is done in a rock’n’ roll style. Pritam has used the guitar as its accompaniment. With its poetic lyric and soulful melody the song goes straight down your heart.

‘Lamha’ a different version of ‘Ek Pal Ke Liye’ keeps up with the mood of the album. Babul Supriyo renders voice to this Sameer lyric.

‘Ankahee’ a situational track has two versions one sung by Shaan and the other by Kunal Ganjawala. It is another soft, haunting melody with minimal musical arrangements.  The first is a sad version sung by Kunal Ganjanwala. It appeals more to the heart with its slower pace and lesser musical instruments. The second is a happy version sung by Shaan. Shaan with his vibrant performance impresses you the most. The song written by Sameer blends the feeling of love, pain and sadness all in to one. This is the title song of the movie. The song has a RD Burman feel to it.

The last song of the album 'Aa Paas Aa' has a haunting melody.  It is a gloomy, painful feel to it. But cannot evoke the same in the listener’s heart.  Even Shreya Ghosal fails to do justice to the powerful lyrics. Compared to other song in this album the music is not very good. But it is a likable song with a touch of pain.

The album Ankahee is a wonderful piece of music. Most of the songs are soft and melodious. It not only goes well with the theme of the movie but also enhances the fell of the story. The lyricists are at their poetic best. The lyrics by Sameer, Amitabh Verma and Subrat Sinha set a romantic atmosphere.
