Movie Review : Kalinga

Producer: Paul Brothers
Director: Ram Prabha
Cast: Bala, Nandana, Janakaraj, Ponnambalam, Rajan P Dev, Charu Hassan
Music: D.Imman

Kalinga (Bala) does everything with the help of his friends in Chennai. His mentor Chanakya (Rajan P.Dev) makes use of him for his own good. However, his life changes after coming across a girl by name Jothi (Nandana). He tries his best to catch her attention but in vain. Now, he reforms himself to win her love. He comes to know that she is a Sri Lankan refugee who aspires to become a doctor. Her parents died of a strange disease.

Kalinga begins to take up odd jobs like driving an auto after reforming himself in order to make Jothi’s dream come true. At this juncture, Chanakya beats him up on knowing that he has reformed. Kalinga also takes revenge by beating up Chanakya at his residence. Now, Jothi gets admission in a university abroad for higher studies. However, things go wrong with Kalinga on the day she leaves. You will have to watch the film to know the rest of the story.

‘Kalinga’ has an interesting storyline but director Ram Prabha has failed to hold the subject firmly. Hero Bala has done excellent job but Nandana has nothing much to do. Rajan P.Dev’s performance as Kalinga's mentor is commendable. The film would have been much better if not for its illogical plots.
