Producer M.S. Raju is known for making good films and almost all his films have good music. Prabhu Deva is also under pressure after the success of his directorial debut ‘NVNV’. At this very critical juncture, Devi Sri Prasad has brought about great relief to both of them by composing good music for their much-hyped film ‘Pournami’. The album is full of melody and beautiful lyrics. The songs have right mix and the choice of singers is also excellent. The quality of these songs will surely increase the expectations on the film.
“Bhavyamaina” is a good classical dance number with beautiful lyrics by Sirivennala. This song provides right momentum to the album. The use of Mridangam and Veena in the interludes is brilliant. Srinivas has sung the song so beautifully and the aalapana in the interludes adds spice to the number. Devi Sri Prasad deserves praises for composing this traditional song that is dying down every passing day.
“Muvvala Navvakala” is a very good melody with excellent quality. It starts off with a soulful aalapana and SPB, Chitra and Sirivennala render it. It is a song with love theme. The music director has provided right feel to the number by beautifully using instruments and chorus. The use of drums at the start of each charanam and the chorus when the pallavi is sung is praise worthy.
“Koyo Koyo” is a party song with Goan folk feel. The good use of trumpets, saxophone, whistles, guitar and bongo make this fast song really hot. Sirivennala has put the lyrics in a simple way and it has good mix of English, Hindi and Telugu words. Its theme is to overcome troubles of life and enjoy life to the fullest. Shaan has sung it so well. In short, Devi Sri deserves praises for composing such a different yet enjoyable number.
“Yevaro Choodali” is a sad solo number well sung by Chitra. Sirivennala has once again given out excellent lyrics, catching the emotions with clever use of words. The interludes are soothing and the usage of flute and Violin set the mood of the song right. This is another good song of the album.
“Pallakivayi” is a sensuous song with fast beats. Gopikapurnima has sung it well and the charanam is much better here. The use of Violin, Gajjelu and bells in the interludes adds beauty to the number.
“Rock and Roll” is an instrumental number sans lyrics. The music director has used lots of Trumpets, chorus, Electric Guitar and drums to give rock and roll feel to the song. It also reminds of the number "Kallallo kallu petti choodu.." from "Jeevita Chakram".
“Icchi Pucchukunte” starts off with a beautiful piece of flute and then moves to impressive lyrics by Sirivennala. The use of various traditional instruments gives folk feel to the number. Sumangali and Tippu have sung it so well. This number would become very popular among the masses.
“Flute Music” is the instrumental version of “Icchi Pucchukunte”. Flute is the leading instrument of this number. Surprisingly, this instrumental version sounds much better the song itself.
“Yevaro Raavali” is the cheerful and romantic version of the earlier song "Yevaro Choodali". These two songs have same tunes but Devi Sri has cunningly used different instruments to give different feel to the numbers. Chitra’s variation in presentation also changes the mood of the number. Sagar has provided good support.
“Bharata Vedhumuga” is undoubtedly the best song of the album. It starts with chorus then gives way to beautiful sound of the Shanku. It is all about a lady’s prayer seeking Lord Shiva’s help and blessings. The sound of sitar towards the end of the song tells that her prayers have been answered. This song could be used at the end of the film. The aalapana used in the interludes is same as the aalapana in the earlier song "Bhavyamaina”. Chitra has sung the number so beautifully by giving out emotions of pathos, bhakti and anger perfectly. This is a really cool and soothing song.
On the whole, this is different kind of album with different music. Use of various instruments gives different feel to the whole album. Sirivennal’s lyrics are superb with high quality. The album itself has the capacity to make the film a hit. Devi Sri Prasad deserves accolades for coming out with this great piece of music.
