Audio Review : On a winning streak

Producer: Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt
Director: Anurag Basu
Cast: Emran Hashmi, Shiney Ahuja, Kangana Ranaut
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Sayeed Quadri, Mayur Puri, Neelesh Misra

A movie from Bhatt’s with Emraan Hashmi in the lead has to have some rocking music. Hashmi is a man who had a reputation of making all the songs picturized on him a hit. With music by Pritam this album is going to do the same- rock you with its music!

‘Gangster’, the new movie from Bhatt parivar is a love cum action thriller. Directed by Anurag Bose this movie has Emraan Hashmi, Shiney Ahuja and the new comer Kangana Ranaut in the lead. The music of this album has already become a rage.

‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’ is a superb composition. The lyric by Sayeed Quadri is very poetic and emotional. Just listen to the first stanza to know what I mean.
Tu hi meri shab hai, subah  hai, tu hi din hai mera
Tu hi meri rab hai , jahaan hai tu hi meri duniya.

K.K marvels in his rendering. He imbibes the feel of the lyric and sings accordingly. With the intermittent use of chorus Pritam takes this to new heights. This song features Emraan Hashmi in a nightclub.

This song has two remixed versions. The first one by Bunty Rajput is a perfect club mix. Next one by Jatin Sharma is the faster one with some English lyrics added.

After  ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’ comes another haunting track.  With this track Bhatts introduce a new singer – this time from Bangladesh- James. Pritam turns the well-written verse of Mayur to a absolutely stunning contemporary song. The lines from this song ‘Na Jaane Koi, Kaisi Hai Zindagi, is played over and over again in your television sets as part of movie’s promotion.

‘Lamha Lamha’ is a soft song with minimal musical arrangements. Abhijeet sings this beautiful romantic track. Once again Pritam captivates you with his music. The lyrics in this album needs a mention All of them are meaningful and poetic. This one written by Neelesh Misra is in the same league. The next version, a duet, has Sunidhi Chauhan singing along Abhijeet.

‘Ya Ali’ has a distinct Arabian feel to it. This is a blend of traditional Sufi music with contemporary musical arrangements. Zubeen, another playback singer who has not been heard often croons this one. With the use of techno sounds Pritam makes it a unique piece.  Not to mention the lyrics, written by Sayeed Qadri the words powerfully emote the mood of the song. The singing is great in co-ordination with the music and lyric.

The last song of this album is a semi- classical track. This song with sitar in the background has a soothing effect on you. Kavitha Seth renders voice to this superbly written Sayeed Quadri lyric.

All together this is an album to cherish. The songs in this album will stay even after the movie. Another musical hit for Emraan , Pritam and Bhatts. This will have people queuing for a copy, so get your before it is over!
