‘Chand Ke Paar Chalo’ the title of the movie is so romantic that you expect a soft, soothing music in this album. Vishnu Narayan does exactly that. ‘Chand Ke Paar Chalo’ is a movie about the rising of a banjaran girl. The movie directed by Mustafa Engineer has the new comer Saahib pairing opposite the beautiful Preeti Jhanginani. Vishnu Narayan adds music to the Rishi Azad, Babu Bhai, Sani Aslam, Afsar Azad verses.
The opening track ‘Chand Ke Paar Chalo' is a melodiously romantic song. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik with their hearty rendering enhance the beauty of the song. It is a soft and soothing song inspired by the music of the hilly region. Visnu Narayan has used Indian musical instruments in the background, especially flute. The sound of flute gives it an Indian feel. This is a song you would love to listen over and over again. The lyric is by Rishi Azad. Other than this version this song has two more versions. One is a shorter one in a playful mood and the other a sad one.
Next song ‘Kinna Sona Pal’ has a sad feel to it. Jaspinder Nerula sings this Punjabi style song. This one also makes no use of western arrangements. Afsar Azad’s verse captures the mood of the song. Just by listening to the song you can make out the scene corresponding to this song.
‘Dhin Chak Lad Gaye’ another folk based number rendered by Kalpana and Karsan Sagathia. From top to bottom this is a dance number. The singers with their energetic vocals make it more vibrant. Sani Aslam writes the lyric. This is the only song that has a scope for a remix. And you get the remixed version in this album.
Vishnu Narayn comes up with another purely Indian melody ‘Deewana Pooch Lega’. This time santoor replaces flute. Udit Narayan lends vocals to this Babu Bhai lyric. It is a nice, soft song you will love to hum.
‘Is Dil Ka Kya Bharosa’ is a qawali track. Kumar Shanu, Aftab Hashmi, Sabri Brothers and Shreya Ghosal croon this number. This is a beautiful track that comes close to the music of 90’s. Vishnu Narayan who used Indian musical instruments throughout his compositions uses harmonium here. The musical instrument gels well with the genre of the song. In older times qawali used to be accompanied by the sound of harmonium. This is the final track of the movie where the hero sees the heroine after a long time.
All the songs in the album ‘Chand Ke Paar Chalo’ are good. With this album Vishnu Narayan has created an identity for himself in the world of Hindi film music. He has showed us that good music does not generally mean loud western composition. Indian musical style when used properly can surely produce a hit. In short this is an album worth your penny.
