The hottest music composer in Bollywood today is probably Himesh Reshammiya. Youngsters simply love his music. So, music lovers will look forward to listen to his tunes once again. But this album has a different feel, as it was composed more than a year ago way before he was shot to fame. ‘Banaras – A Mystic Love Story’ has spiritual context, and so, it will reveal the music composer’s potentials. The album has lyrics by Sameer. LC Singh is the producer and Pankaj Parashar directs it. Urmila Matondkar, Ashmit Patel, Dimple Kapadia, Raj Babbar and Naseeruddin Shah play the lead roles in the film. It would hit the silver screens in April.

Reshammiya sings the first number of the album “Kitna Pyar Kartein Hain”. It is a good love song with classical base and Reshammiya has sung it quite well though it is a different kind of song. He sings with low pitch. The song sounds similar to Adnan Sami’s song ‘Tera Chehra’ at regular intervals. Alka Yagnik accompanies Reshammiya in the number and she has lived up to the expectations. This song is appealing to the ear.

“Ishq Mein Dilko” is another good love song. It brings to light Reshammiya of the past. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan have sung it really well and made a perfect combination. The song takes a melodious approach and flows with the emotions. It is repeated twice in Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan’s voices yet it remains a melodious number.

There are not many Holi songs, and so, “Rang Dalo” is welcome. It has a folksy flavor with foot-tapping tunes at places and has the feel of yesteryear numbers. There is a folk version too. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal sing the earlier version whereas Sonu sings with Sailesh in the folk version. The number is fine but its popularity will depend on its picturization in the film.

“Purab Se” is a devotional song in praise of Sun God. It could be the introduction song of Urmila. Shreya Ghoshal has sung it really well. She has given spiritual feel to it. Sameer’s lyrics are good and fit the number. But this is not the kind of song for people who are expecting typical Bollywood numbers. People who have inclination towards classical music and devotional songs will enjoy this number.

“Yeh Hai Shaan Banaras Ki” is a complete situational song that tells about Banaras city and sings its glory. It has a loud feel because of the use of heavy instrument. It could be the title song. Sanjeev Abhyankar sings the number. This song is fine but it is not going to become hot.

“Bajooband Khul Khul Jaye” is a classical number that goes against regular Bollywood albums. Classical singer Pranab Kumar sings this number and he has done a good job. It is a very short track. It may fit the film but typical Bollywood music lovers will not love this number.

You should not miss this album if you are looking forward to listen to something different from Reshammiya. The album of ‘Banaras – A Mystic Love Story’ has only a couple of songs that film buffs would love to listen. The rest of the songs would interest only students and Indian classical musicians.
