Movie Review : Ram

Producer: N Sudhakar Reddy
Director: N Shankar
Cast: Nitin, Genelia, Hrishita Bhatt
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Filmmakers play with human emotions. So, love, friendship and revenge are used over and over again in films. Director N Shankar's film ‘Ram’ is another film built around revenge theme and it has lots of youthful romance and comedy. But unfortunately, it has failed to click the right cord.

Nitin has done the lead role with lots of energy and enthusiasm and Genelia’s charm reaches far and wide. But simple packaging and poor script have let the film down. The director should have presented the hero’s revenge drama in a better manner.

Ram (Nitin) is a cheerful and upcoming cycling champion from Hyderabad. He goes to Mumbai for final round after winning a competition. But fate takes him to something different after reaching Mumbai. He comes to know his family ties, especially with that of his grandfather (Krishnam Raju), a social-minded man, who was killed by rowdies (Devraj and Jeeva) for want of his property. Ram takes revenge on the killers and in the mean time wins the heart of one of the baddies’ daughter (Genelia).

This kind of story needs to have good script but ‘Ram’ lacks it. Nitin’s performance is commendable and his screen presence is terrific. Genelia too looks cute and pretty but poor script has pushed everything down the drains. Genelia’s role is limited and so too is Hrishita Bhatt's role, who plays her sister in the film. Devraj, Jeeva and Brahmanandam have done their jobs well and Venu Madhva's comedy is also fine.

The film is not lagging in technical front. Yuvan's music is good though it is not used properly in the film. His re-recording is impressive. The only flip side of the film is Shankar’s direction. ‘Ram’ would have been much better if he worked a little bit harder than he did. Lack of second thought has made it an ordinary film.
