The album of ‘Saawan- The Love Season’ is a good piece of work from Aadesh Shrivastava. It is perhaps his best work after ‘Baghban’. The right combination of a foot-tapping dance number, a soulful Qawwali and other melodious songs has made the album so special. Moving away from rap and remixes also has made the album sound original and pure.

“Punjabi Ankhonwali” is a good bhangra rock number beautifully sung by Shaan and Sunidi Chauhan. The sounds of electric guitar, western beats and bhangra dhol are fused together, giving a good feel to the number. The use of female chorus has added spice to it. This track will surely find its place in dancing floors and wedding parties.

Guest composer Sajid-Wajid will be proud of this qawwali number “Tu Mila De”. It reminds you of Mohammad Rafi’s sad numbers like “Mere Mitwa” and “Aaj puraani rahon se koi mujhe awaaz na de”. The music director has neither tampered harmonium and tabla nor given any room for western music. Sonu Nigam is at his best and the way he sings high-pitched tunes is commendable. He deserves accolades for beautifully rendering this number though he is a commercial singer.

“Jo Maangi Khuda Se” is a good romantic number beautifully sung by Kunal Ganjawala. The whole song is like a poem with poetic piece of piano, flute on keyboards and sound of strings in the background. It has another version sung by Jaspinder Nirula. Her expressive voice gives another dimension to the song. Music lovers will surely love to listen to this number again and again.

Vasundhara Das sings “Ready For Love” with great control and attitude. Her voice suits it very well. It is a disco number intoxicated with the innocence of love. The use of bass guitar also makes the song sound good.

“Saawan…The Love Season” is the title track beautifully sung by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. It has good traditional melody with modern arrangements and the sounds of tabla and drums merge together so well. Strings make the background sound good while the sounds of trumpet and flute bring about a good feel of this love season. This is a very soothing and captivating number.

“Mere Dil Ko Dil Ki Dhadkan Ko” is a good number with Arabian music arrangements. It has the rhythm of African beats fused with the sounds of drums and bass. The strains of Rabab and Sarod pieces attract the attention of the listeners. The use of harmonica and keyboard adds spice to the number. Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal have sung it with great ease.

In a nutshell, the album of ‘Saawan…The Love Season’ is a pleasant surprise. Music director Aadesh Shrivastava deserves a pat from the back for this good piece of work.
