Movie Review : Aryan – The Unbreakable

Producer: Poonam Khubani, Vipin Anand
Director: Abhishek Kapoor
Cast: Sohail Khan, Sneha Ullal, Puneet Issar
Music: Raaj Anand

Nobody likes coffee that has been made long back, but has been served after it has gone cold. So how can you expect the audience to lap up a film that has been made long ago and served at the theatre pretty late, almost when the fizz has dried up? That’s exactly the point we want to drive home at the first instance for Abhishek Kapoor’s debut venture ‘Aryan – The Unbreakable’. Starring in the film are Sohail Khan and Sneha Ullal if you can remember. Lack of hype at the time of release, doesn’t generate any kind of expectation from the film.

The film is basically a love story with boxing as its backdrop. Apart from boxing the film highlights the relationship between a husband-wife and the problems that they face in their relationship. Being a first timer Abhishek Kapoor falters in many parts but also he projects rightly that he is skilled in his craft. He has put together the right ingredients of emotion and content. But the film does get its inspiration from Sylvester Stallone starrer ‘Rocky’ and this is what the audience feels every time.

An aspiring boxer has to work ten times harder than any other sportsmen. Aryan (Sohail Khan) is just that, a hard pursuer in the boxing field. He can go to any limits to fulfill his dream because boxing is his passion. Ever since his childhood he has nourished the ambition to fight. As he grows young and joins college he turns out to be the college champ. Coach Ranveer Singh (Puneet Issar) is his strength of force who trains him and wishes him to win the nationals.

Aryan loves Neha (Snehal Ullal) and she is his pillar of support and strength for him. For her he can tread through anything. He needs her every time, everywhere.  But life was not that smooth for him as something happens and his destiny changes. He has to choose between his love and dream of boxing and he is left with no alternative other than to choose his love.  He marries Neha and becomes a common man and sometime later they also have a kid. Aryan’s life goes on in the similar manner and he joins the job as a sports commentator. But he is unable to balance anything fine and his married life and also his career and job suffer due to it.

On the persuasion of Coach Ranveer Singh he gets back to the ring one day. That day changes his course of life once again. The ambition of his life changes and he decides to get back to follow his dreams again. His aspiration of becoming a champion comes true because of his persistence. But he loses something very dear to him for his decision, his wife!

The highpoint of the film in the emotional relationship of the husband and wife that has been depicted here. Also the climax fight holds lots of potential in the script. The boxing scenes are the kind never been seen before in Indian screen. Anand Raaj Anand’s music is good and two songs Jaaneman’ and ‘Chhuna Hai Aasman Ko’ are hummable. The film is aplomb in technical ground.

Sohail Khan gets good scope of performing and he does well. Sneha Ullal show lots of development in her work compared to her first film. Puneet Issar, Farida Jalal, Satish Shah, Suved Lohia, Supriya Karnik, Fardeen Khan and Inder Kumar do their job well.

The film does have the potential of a great entertainer, but it is predictable that the box office will narrate a different story due to the lack of hype and competition from the biggies.
