‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is one of the most awaited films of the year and the next biggie produced under the Dharma Productions banner and is directed by Karan Johar. The stellar cast of the film includes Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Kiron Kher while Arjun Rampal and Saira Mohan have special appearances in the film. The rocking and great soundtrack has been composed by the musical trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.

The story of the film is set in the milieu of New York City and narrates a different romantic tale of Dev Saran (Shahrukh Khan) and Maya Talwar(Rani Mukerji). Dev is married to Rhea (Preity Zinta) and Maya is married to Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan). Both of them are married and are unhappy in their marriages but feel that this is the ultimate thing that can happen to their marriage. Coincidently Dev and Maya meet and feel that they are just made for each other. They want something more from their relationship, something that is more real and deep- and they find it in each other! They come together with pleasant barbs and soon realise that their relation is much more than that. With love for one another they realise how sad they have been with their marriage. But a decision by them might ruin the life of many? What is their next step, to bow down before the failed relationship or to hold each other’s hands and walk together?

Karan Johar puts in, “There are three kinds of married people in the world. First, whose marriages are arranged. I've never understood that, but I'm sure they know what they're doing. Then there are those who fall in love and marry their soul mates. These few, I believe, are the most fortunate people in the world. And lastly, there are those couples that marry for their parents, for money or play it safe and marry a friend. These are the most unfortunate ones in the world... and they don't even know it. Until one day, riding the fast train of life they run into their soul mate, and are faced with the hardest question of all. What do you when you meet the love of your life and you're married to someone else? What do you do? What do you do?” This is what his next biggie  ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ answers! He has stated that unlike his former films that speaks about vibrant and colourful relationshipd ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ explores the darker side of human relationships and each of his characters has grey shades.

Karan Johar claims that ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is his own idea and the film has not been inspired by Yash Chopra's Silsila or the Hollywoood film ‘Closer’. He planned the original cast with Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Ajay Devgan, John Abraham and Rani Mukerji. Arjun Rampal replaced John Abraham, Rani stepped in Kajol’s shoes, Preity came in for Rani and Abhishek in place of Ajay. This film has been shot in New York City, Westchester, New Jersey, New Haven, Philadelphia and East Hartford, Connecticut from September 2005 through December 2005 and the remaining shoots were completed in Mumbai and Malaysia in 2006.
