‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, this is what we have to say to the musical genius Shankar-Ehsan –Loy. They with the ‘badshah’ of Hindi ‘shayari’ Javed Akhthar has given us a music to lay back to.

‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is a Karan Johar venture. After the extravagant multi starrer ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ Karan is donning the director’s chair once again. This movie is more like a family production with Shahrukh, Rani, Abhishek, Amitabh and Preity playing the lead. Karan’s best friend Farah Khan is the choreographer.

The album begins with the title song of the movie ‘Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna’. After the huge success of their earlier title track for Karan Johar movie  ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ the music director trio Shankar –Ehsan Loy was under tremendous pressure. What ever they churn out now will be compared to the  ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ track. But this talented trio effortlessly overcome the challenge and come out with a different and trendier track this time.

‘Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna’ has a sad ambience throughout the song. The song starts with the sound of a solo piano. Then comes the pain filled voice of Sonu Nigam. Alka Yagnik joins him in the mid way. Javed Akhthar’s lyrics ‘ka kya kehna’! It builds up the sad ambience. Even the picturisation of this title track stands out. Each stanza has a different color in the background. It starts with yellow and ends in green. Hats off to the Shankar –Ehsan –Loy, Javed Akhthar and Karan Johar team!

For the first time Karan Johar experiments with the Sufi kind of music. ‘Mitwa’ is a melodiously painful number. The song starts with guitar in the background. The singers voice comes much later in the song. Shankar Mahadevan starts the proceedings. Then Caralisa and Fuzon lead singer Shafqat Amanat Ali join him. Javed Akhthar lyrics are very powerful as usual. It compels the hesitant youngsters to fall in love. A real musical gem! The remix version of this song is a typical lounge version and is good to be played in a romantic outing.

Next in line is a Hip- Hop track ‘Where's The Party Tonight’.  Compared to other disco tracks from Karan Johar ventures this is the trendiest one. Shaan and Vasundhara Das are fully immersed in the feel of this song and come out with a superb performance. This will make your head and feet sway with the tune. Once again Shankar- Ehsan –Loy has come up with a hot and vivid musical experience.

‘Tumhi Dekho Naa’ is inspired from the piano piece used in the title song. The prelude of the title track becomes the ‘Mukhda’ of this song. It is a sweet and soft romantic song in the voice of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Javed Akhthar surprises you with his poignant romantic lyrics. The choreography needs a mention here. Farah Khan has come out with an eye catching slow dance moves. No words to describe this Shankar- Ehsan –Loy masterpiece!

End comes fast for these kinds of extra ordinary musical delights. The album ends with Big B shaking his legs for a rock ‘n’ roll number  ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Soniye’. The voice of Shaan and Mahalakshmi Aiyer reach the zenith of energy. This vivacious dance number is sure to find its place in the dance floors soon. Picturised in the usual extravagant Karan Johar way, this song borrows words from the classic popular tracks like ‘Sar Pe Topi Laal, Haath Mein’.

In total extraordinary musical delight!  This music is here to stay. Karan, who has a very good musical sense, carries forth his musical experiments with each of his new ventures. And to everyone’s surprise he gets everything right each and every time. He is a trendsetter and with this movie he strengthens his position.
