There was lots of hype around ‘Paasakiligal’, as it has story, dialogues and screenplay by DMK chief M Karunanidhi but the real story is not at all convincing. The film is all about sibling bond, which is as old as the hills. The dialogues and the character names indicate that Karunanidhi is yet to come out of the old Kollywood era.
The film revolves around two villages Aalur and Melur. Sethupathy (Prabhu) and his brother Sathayya (Murali) love their sister Maragatham (Navya Nair) very much. But she falls in love with Nallarasu (Vineeth), brother of Vairagya Boopathy (Nasser), who is a chieftain of a village name Aalur.
Meanwhile, Alakalan (Kalabhavan Mani) marries Vairagya Boopathy’s sister Angayarkanni (Roja) and starts creating enmity between the families of Sethupathy and Vairagya Boopathy. Then Vairagya Boopathy takes his own life, thinking that Sethupathy is bringing disgrace to the village. So, Nallarasu marries Maragatham to take revenge on her. The rest of the film is on how Sethupathy and Sathayya set things right.
Except Prabhu and Navya Nair, the other cast of the film speaks lengthy dialogues without creating any impact. Navya Nair has given justice to her role, playing the lead character with ease and maturity. She has done very well in sentimental scenes. Vadivelu has succeeded in pricking the laughter veins of the viewers and Kalabhavan Mani’s performance is fine. Vidyasagar's music is also good. But on the whole, poor screenplay and slow pace have made the film boring.
