Movie Review : Aksar

Producer: Shyam Bajaj
Director: Anant Mahadevan
Cast: Dino Morea, Emraan Hashmi, Tara Sharma, Udita Goswami
Music: Himesh Reshammiya

We saw Emraan Hashmi and Udita starrer ‘Zeher’, a hot film on extra marital relationship. ‘Aksar’ we can say is one step forward than that, it is also on extra marital relationship but it is bolder. The film is directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan who is yet to open his chapter of hits in Bollywood after his former two films have turned out to be no shows. After directing films on romance and comedy here he is with a thriller on the relationships of three individuals. Two men played by Emraan and Dino with one woman Udita.

As we’ve said, the film is bold so there are chances it may not settle fine with the Indian audience. The story is complex with an adult frame of mind. The narrative is about a rich man who wants another man to flirt with his wife and have an affair with her to catch her in the bedroom in a compromising position.  But she is no frail woman and doesn’t intend to beg for forgiveness. So the husband gets into the web of trap he has laid for his wife.

Ricky (Emraan) is a fashion photographer, wild and passionate and always catches up with his models for romance. Sheena (Udita) is a fashion model who turns to become an actress. She invites him to meet her in a gym. She wanted to talk about her friend Nisha (Tara Sharma) whom Ricky has ditched. Time passes by and both of them forget everything.

Ricky holds an exhibition and Rajveer (Dino Morea) a millionaire buys off the whole thing even before the show has begun. Other than that he also offers Ricky a condition to woo his wife Sheena and make him fall in love with him. Initially Ricky gets confused with the idea of a man negotiating him to have an affair with his wife. But Rajveer convinces him telling that he wants his wife to divorce him and that can only happen if she falls in love with somebody else.

Ricky starts his tricks and begins playing with Sheena. Initially Sheena can’t stand him but gradually she takes a liking of him. But Rajveer gets them red handed making love. He was expecting something else in his mind when Sheena backfires him telling that if he can have an extra-marital affair than why can’t she. Rajveer gets trapped in his own plan. Sheena won’t divorce him and Ricky who is enjoying the flirt and the riches hesitate to leave him. Rajveer has no way back other than to regret his deed!

The film definitely has some originality but the bold and modern outing acts as its limitations. The pace of the story moves on gradually unfolding one plot after another. The story is gripping and nonetheless exciting but it is the pre-climax that is a big letdown. The script at this point demands more reasonability and accuracy as it leads to a major twist in the plot. The films losses spark in this aspect and also due to the lack of spice whole through the screenplay.

The music is already rocking and Himesh is walking with a straight face. ‘Jhalak Dikhlaja’ has been received so well and there is ‘Lagi lagi’ to look forward to. The locales of London are an advantage and so are the dialogues, which are crisp enough to grab attention. Udita Goswami shows the quality of a good actor evolving with every film she is doing. Emraan Hashmi should try out different roles, as he is looking typecast doing the same things again and again. Dino Morea does justice as a rich guy and is apt. Others like Tara Sharma, Rajat Bedi and Suresh Menon are adequate.

With the music of the film already rocking the charts, it may act as a benefit to the film. But it remains to be seen if it can cover up the faults of the screenplay and the limitations of the film.
