Director Dasarath tries to fit hero Manoj into a larger than life image in ‘Sree’. In the film, the hero fights for a cause all alone, very much like the recent releases ‘Bunny’ and ‘Bhadra’. The romantic scenes of the film are good. Its music is also fine. But the director has committed mistake by selecting a poor story. He has elevated Manoj’s character to a great extent but many scenes are forcibly created in order to match his mass image.
In the film, Sriram (Maoj) is called by name Sri. He is a cheerful and jolly man residing in Buvaneshwat. He is in love with Sandhya (Tamanna) but her father has rivals who want to eliminate him. Factionist Bikshapathi (Devaraju), the head of the rival begins to grab granite mine and lands illegally. They are also looking out for their close and trusted associate Basavanna, who becomes a good man after marrying Durga (Sukanya). A flash back also reveals that Basavanna is Sri’s father. How Sri takes revenge on the killers of his father forms the rest of the film.
Hero Manoj has done a splendid job, especially in action scenes. But he would have looked more glamorous and smart had he loss some more weight. Mohan Babu deserves all the praises and accolades for his great performance. But heroine Tamanna looks pale in the film. Director Dasarath should have chosen a better story for the film. There is nothing special as far as the technical aspect of the film is concerned. Sandeep’s music is good but it has no impact on the film. Arun Kumar’s camera work is fine while that of the dialogues are simple. On the whole, the film is a bore and is going to test the patience of the audience.
