The much-hyped film ‘Majaa’ has Vikram, Pasupati and Manivannan in the lead. It is made in all the four South Indian languages. Shafi not only directs its original film in Malayalam but also directs in its Tamil and Telugu remakes too. Hero Vikram is trying his hands on this entertainer after doing serious role in ‘Aparichitudu’. But ‘Majaa’ lacks novelty unlike his other films. The audience will be surprised to see him doing this kind of role.
Something seems to have missed out of this film, though it tries to entertain. Moreover, the storyline and screenplay is thin. There are a few good dialogues but they not strong enough to defend the film. Two good songs of the film are beautifully shot but the rest of the song lacks that. Yet, the stunts composed by Vijay and Ram-Laxman are excellent. Screenplay is not up to the mark while Shafi’s direction is good. Balasubramanyam’s cinematography is fine, yet it is much below his wonderful work in ‘Sivaputrudu’.
In the film, a father (Manivannan) and his 2 sons (Prasad, Adi) are thieves. They want to mend their bad ways and lead a good life. So, they buy a lorry. They come across a village, where a landlord named Rayudu rules and his decision is the final. There, they have to stand for a family and go against him. In the meantime, Prasad falls in love with Rayudu’s daughter. The rest of the film is on a robbery allegation against Adi and Prasad’s subsequent marriage break up. The film has a few twists but its climax is very much predictable.

Lead actors Vikram, Pasupati and Manivannan have good roles to perform. Hero Vikram’s performance in the film is very good. He plays a different kind of role; still, he single-handedly carries the burden with ease. He entertains the audience well. Manivannan, Pasupathi, Kumar and Murali are fine but Asin has nothing much to do in the film except for the songs. Still, Asin looks stunning and attractive in the film. Sindhu Tolani is also there for a song sequence. Vadivelu brings out the laughter veins of the audience.
It looks like the film is a complete Tamil film and lacks nativity. It’s rather like a dubbed film than a remake one. One could see carelessness too, for instance, the lorry is painted Maja in English and the next moment, it is written in Tamil. The first half of the film goes in good pace with forceful dialogues and fights but the song sequences are not up to the mark. The songs in the second half are very good but the climax is predictable. On the whole, ‘Majaa’ is a good entertainer without nativity.
