Movie Review : Deewane Huye Pagal - Go for tickling your bones

Producer: Firoz Nadiadwala
Director: Vikram Bhatt
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Om Puri, Rimmi Sen
Music: Anu Malik

‘Deewane Huye Pagal’ is outrageously humorous! Every instance in the film leads to gleeful moments, with fun timed and positioned for maximum. The makers of the film have been able to make a funny movie once again. If you don’t see it you won’t believe how much you’ll enjoy the fun. You’ve been waiting for months to watch this film in the multiplexes and the theatres around you, and now its out to double up your expectations. Many comedy films have proved to be crackers this year, with one bursting the box office record consecutively. After watching so many comedy stuffs successively, wearing a mad cap isn’t a new thing for you. Wear it once again, tickle your funny bones, without bothering to bang your head on it.

Producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala had tried his hands with many comic capers in the past and have succeeded in all too. He had come out with big and good films, but the best was yet to come. With ‘Deewane Huye Pagal’ he hits the mark. Firoz A. Nadiadwala and Vikram Bhatt, who began their association with the laughathon ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’, comes with one more hilarious film, that is value worth with satisfaction guaranteed.

The plot rolls out. Karan (Shahid Kapoor) is a sweet lover boy who has his eyes fixed on his college mate Tanya (Rimii Sen). She has the entire college running after her. He dreams of spending a romantic blessed life with the girl but gets into mayhem instead. Tanya sees a murder one night. The man murdered (Om Puri) is a scientist whose brother (Om Puri again) and his son want a codeword at any cost. The codeword hidden in a toy parrot is with Tanya now but she is completely unaware of it.

She flees to Dubai to get rid of the whole thing and also renames herself as Natasha. Karan is love bugged and thinks about Tanya day in and out. To trace her and find her whereabouts he enrolls Rocky (Akshay Kumar), an attractive investigator. Rocky finds her and also finds his heart fluttering away to her. Karan, Tanya and Rocky form a triangle, with Sanju (Suniel Shetty) entering the scene to add another angle to it. He is Tanya’s friend, a handicap man who is also in awe of Tanya. Rocky and Sanju get into a rift over the girl, with one trying to outsmart the other all the time. To add to the confusion Paresh Rawal (another disabled man) also loses his heart over her. Con men and lovelorn men follow Tanya everywhere she goes, leading to one hilarious episode after another. The film culminates giving to the climax that she is actually engaged to an industrialist (Aftab Shivdasani). Where does the equation lead to and what each of them gets at last, disclose at the screen near you.

The film is inspired from the Hollywood flick ‘There’s Something About Mary’ with new touches of action, glam and funny moments added to it by Vikram Bhatt. The actors especially Akshay, Paresh Rawal, Johny Lever and Vijay Raaz due to their rocking comic timing makes you hold your stomach. Gearing through many hilarious moments and the multiple love stories, with sequences that make you roar with laughter, the film takes a sharp turn towards the climax with actions and breath taking locales dominating the screen.

This is one film with which Vikram Bhatt will again be able to hold the reign of his career. He has given the right treatment that a comedy of such caliber deserves and comes out triumphantly. Anu Malik deserves a share of success with some outstanding scores in the film. The songs have been picturised well and will gain attention. Neeraj Vora and Abbas Hirapurwala are awesome with the dialogues, offering some of the best witty dialogues of the recent time. Cinematography of Pravin Bhatt and Kiran Kotrial’s screenplay are top-notch. Abbas Ali Moghul has done a stupendous job with the action.

Akshay Kumar keeping up high with the success of ‘Garam Masala’, once again puts his better hand. He is the show stealer in the true sense. Shahid Kapoor makes his appearance after a long time, and gives his role the best go. He and Akshay are up on another in the film and the scenes bringing them together with the cold water between them is electrifying. Suniel Shetty brings up his comic side as a surprise for many. Rimi Sen handles her part perfectly with the message ‘I’ve arrived’. Words fall short to describe Paresh Rawal for his delivery. He is too good. Same applies to Johny Lever and Vijay Raaz. Om Puri and Suresh Menon as villains are at par.

This non-stop laugh riot is a great entertainer, heading as another successful comedy film of 2005. The comedy helps better than the laughter club. So keep your heart safe laughing, watching it!
