Producer: Rajan A Director: V M Vinu Cast: Mammootty, Jayasurya, Mamta, Bhavana, Nikhita, Innocent, Bindu Panickar, Salim Kumar Music: M Jayachandran
Director of the film V.M.Vinu has merged ‘Balettan’ and ‘Vesham’ to make ‘Bus Conductor’. It is a family formula story and has Muslim backdrop. Mammootty plays the role of a big brother and the film is all about the goodness of the main character. Mammootty plays Sultanveetil Zakir Hussain alias ‘Bus conductor Kunjakka’ and he has given justice to the role.
In the film, Sultanveetil Zakir Hussain (Mammootty) is the head of a large family consisting of mother (Bindu Panikkar), sister (Poornima) and her two daughters, husband (Innocent) and a son Najeeb (Jayasurya). And he has a little sister Selina (Mamta Mohandas) who he loves very much.
Zakir Hussain owns a private bus ‘Maithri’ and the local people fondly call him Kunjakka. A corrupt local sub-inspector (Anil) who also owns a bus ‘Road King’ makes his life miserable. Moreover, his nephew Najeeb leaves his pregnant wife behind and goes to Dubai. So, Kunjakka takes care of her with help of his wealthy girlfriend Noorjehan (Nikhita). But misunderstanding crops up between him and his family, leading to a sentimental and dramatic climax.
Mammootty entertains and exposes the horrible conditions of workers in private buses in Kerala. All is well with the film with good performance from Harisri Asokan, Kalpana and others but it starts faltering with the introduction of fake sentiments by the director and scriptwriter. Moreover, the role of the hero as the protector of a woman could be misleading. There is nothing special in M.Jayachandran’s music and the background music is similar to Tamil superstar films. But Bobban’s artwork is commendable. On the whole, only Mammootty’s fans can enjoy the film.
