It is very true that movies stuck in the cans for long looses their appeal to attract the audience to the theatres. But this cannot be said exactly in regard to ‘Humko Tume Se Pyar Hai’ that released this Friday. There was least expectations attached to the film owing to his star cast and lack of appeal in the story, but in spite of the shortcomings there are much more you can look forward in the film. Though the film is not a thorough entertainer that will glue you to the screens, yet it can make you sit through with ease. The film looks very much like the ones in the 80s and the love story also lacks fresh inputs. Rather it looks pretty very much like a classic but the execution of the story by Bunty Soorma and Vikram Bhatt is what sets in apart with twists and turns that keeps the interest going. However the film might hardly impress the current segment of moviegoers and especially the multiplex audience due to its age-old plot. Durga (Amisha Patel) is a very beautiful girl who lives in remote Rajasthan. She lives with her loving mother (Suhasini Mulay) and is very good in sculpting clay images. She appears to be a perfect girl outwardly, with the only thing that mars it all is that she is blind. However the presence of Rohit (Arjun Rampal) in her life hardly makes her feel that she is handicapped. Rohit met her when he came for his job there in a chemical company. Durga loves him for his honesty and Rohit finds himself captivated by her beauty. They face the first hurdle in their love when Rana (Parmeet Sethi) enters the scene. He eyes Durga and also attempts raping her. In the nick of time Rohit comes in and bashes him up. Rana swears to make Rohit’s life hell.
Rohit assist Durga for her eye treatment to Dr. Prasad (Kanwaljeet). With the treatment Durga regains back her eyesight and they both decide to marry each other. But sadly Durga is not fated to see the man she truly loved, as Rohit gets murdered by Rana when he goes to arrange his marriage. Durga has eyes now but she can’t see her love. She decides to die but Dr. Prasad takes her to Switzerland and infuses in her the will to start living again.
Here Durga comes across good-looking Raj (Bobby Deol) who falls in love with her instantly. But Durga can’t leave her past and can’t except another man in her life until she learns that Raj and Rohit were close friends. Both of them have lost the person they’ve loved and Durga taking this factor into consideration nods to marry him. But she is still unsure if this was the same Rohit as she has never seen him. Fate again strikes a blow when Rohit returns to attend his friend’s marriage. He comes across Durga and though Durga doesn’t know she loved him, he knows the whole truth well.
Well the story is the one that you’ve heard and watched many times before in the Indian screen. But the screenplay by Ashok Roy and direction hold the interest of the film and makes up for the routine story. The first part is pretty all right with love and romance and it is the second part that makes the progress and prospects brighter with interesting twists coming in progression. But here again the climax mars the fate in the end. The ending is the one that has been done to death many a times before.
Though the film has passed through two hands in the making Bunty Soorma and Vikram Bhatt, yet it never looks like a patchwork and that’s the best part of it. Music by Anand Raaj Anand is apt and the melodious scores work fine. Cinematography by Nirmal Jani] is good.
Bobby Deol is a treat to watch and overall he has pulled up a good job. Though the leads are Amisha and Arjun, he too makes his impact felt. Arjun looks initially uncomfortable but in the second part manages fine. Amisha is also decent with her performance.
The film is a pretty good entertainer but owing to the lack of publicity and the mediocre start cast it fight hiccups at the box office.
