SPB Charan and his father S P Balasubramaniam are joining hands to do ‘Mazhai’, a remake of Telugu super hit film ‘Varsham’. And they have rightly chosen Devi Sri Prasad to work on its music. The audio of the film has a right mix of mass and melody. The songs of the original had won two Filmfare awards. And music of ‘Mazhai’ is a repetition of previous success.
"Nee Varumbhodu" has an earthy lyrics and folksy tunes. Chitra is good as ever. She won Filmfare award for this number in Telugu. And her voice is wonderful in this song too. Good blend of rhythm, tunes and orchestration makes the song really soothing. Kalpana’s voice has added to the beauty of this wonderful song.
SP Balasubramaniam has shown again that he is still the best when it comes to music with this number ‘Thappe Ille’. His voice is still very youthful and strong. He combines with young Harini very well. Both are amazing together. Devi Sri Prasad’s orchestration matches the song very well. This number is great with excellent lyrics.
"Isthanbul" starts with some enigmatic instrument, resembling Middle East music. It is a mass number with heavy music, heavy-accented and high-throated singing. Jassie Gift and Kalpana have done justice to the number. In fact, they have rendered exactly what the music director wants.
SPB Charan is not sing regularly owing to his production works. The fact is, he sings much like his father and has a beautiful voice. His soft voice goes along so well with this number "Mannile". His enthusiasm brings out this romantic number to a new level. Sumangali gives good company to SPB Charan and the orchestration is also good.
"Kuchikaruvadu" has the tunes of Devi Sri Prasad’s previous film ‘Thirupachi’. He uses the same instruments, though he has worked on the tunes. Tippu and Sri Lekha Parthasarathy have added energy to the song. The lyrics are bad, still, it will make the people dance to its tunes.
"Muthu Mazhaiye" is a song with slow tunes. The flow of the tune is even and beautiful. Sagar’s voice is good, though he sings from his nose. Sumangali also accompanies him in this number.
In the nutshell, music director Devi Sri Prasad has done a great job. He has delivered the right goods to the music lover.
