Movie Review : Kodambakkam

Producer: Jaganji
Director: Jaganji
Cast: Nanda, Diya, Tejashree, Manivannan, Muthukalai, Ramesh Kanna, Manobala
Music: Sirpy

Director Jaganji has chosen Kodambakkam, the headquarters of Tamil film industry as the title of the film. In fact, the place in itself is a story, as it shoulders the hopes and dreams of many people. So, ‘Kodambakkam’ unearths the problems faced by small time artistes like the assistant directors, music helpers etc.

Hats off to the director for taking up the challenge to bring to light the unrecognized heroes in the making of a film. In fact, the film unravels the problems and sufferings faced by thousands of assistant directors in the film industry. Jaganji deserves a pat from he back for banking on the less-known artistes for this challenging film.

Sugavannan (Nanda), a young guy from village comes to Chennai with an ambition to become a big director. His girlfriend Dhanam (Dhiya) from his village is his motivator. Then he goes around with production manager Puli Kumar (Ramesh Khanna) and narrates scripts to producers. But the producers are not in the mood to take risk in producing his offbeat film.

Then Sugavannan and Puli Kumar come across a rich man named Rasappa Goundar (Manivannan), who knows nothing about cinema. They convince him to get into film production, and so, the film takes wings to fly with a popular Bollywood heroine Preethi (Thejashre) in the lead role.

The making of the film completes after going through many hurdles but things fail to go the way Sugavannan plans. He fails to find takers of the film. Once again, Puli Kumar steps in and decides to release it on his own. You will have to watch the film to know the fate of Sugavannan’s film and his dreams.

Nanda’s performance in the film is commendable. He seems to have got into the skin of the character of the film and looks cool. He has matured a lot as an actor and his dialogue delivery has also improved. Diya plays a simple role without any glamour in this film and Thejashri has played the role of a Bollywood heroine well. However, the presence of Manivannan and Ramesh Khanna made the film better. They have not only exposed the laughter veins of the audience but also brought out lots of emotions.

The technical aspect of the film is also fine. Senthil Kumar's camera work is good and Sirpy has come out with some soothing numbers. In a nutshell, director Jaganji has successfully highlighted the travails of aspiring directors.
