‘Salaam Namaste’ is zippy, trendy and an absolute Gen-X film that one can look forward to. It’s from the house of Yashraj banners who have been making some terrific entertaining films in the recent time. With this film they continue their hat trick spree after ‘Dhoom’, ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Veer Zaara’ and the most recent ‘Bunty Aur Babli’.
Saif Ali Khan, who is going great guns in his career, takes a steadfast swing and so does Preity Zinta after her reckoning performance in ‘Veer Zaara’. The duo pairs up for the fourth time with this film. Another male role in the film is rendered by funny bone Arshad Warsi. He has an interesting role in the film and he pairs opposite Tania Zaetta. The film also features John Abraham in a special role. Directed by debutant Sidharth Raj Anand who has assisted Kunal Kohli in ‘Hum Tum’ the film is produced under Yash Raj production banner. The film has music by Vishal Shekhar.
The film is set in the milieu of Australia. The premise is about two Indian souls who fall in love in Australia. The two free foots have quitted their home in India to make a life of their own in Australia. They meet and fall in love and also undertake the responsibility to take care of their life, relation and problems. The film is a serving of their life covering a period of one year, which they spend together.
The film has in the lead Saif who returns back to his colorful self again here. He is Nikhil Arora, popularly called as Nick in Melbourne. He appears as a cool, strong and a contemporary guy. A architecture student who leaves for Melbourne and instead chooses to be a chef there. The only objective behind choosing the profession is that he can tail off with late morning sleep, lead a unbinding life and a crouched laid-back lifestyle. To satisfy these wants he had moved all the way from Ludhiana to Australia, with his parents innocent about most of his deeds. They’re neither aware that their son have turned a chef and runs a famous Indian restaurant ‘Nick of Time’. So what knocks down this carefree soul? Love, the universal feeling.

He ends up messing his life due to his sleep and doesn’t turn up for the RJ show hosted by Ambar Malhotra (Preity Zinta). Ambar has shifted her base from Bangalore to Melbourne due to her parents pestering for marriage. She is an effervescent female, lively and sparkly, who is a part time RJ and host a show at the Salaam Namaste radio station. She hosts interviews of the Indians living there and in one particular interview she comes across Nick. He doesn’t turn up and this pisses her off and she decides to teach him some lessons. But when she meets him she is unable to hold her heart from falling in love with him.
Nick and she are the most differing characters on earth. But they too can’t resist the theory that opposites attract and end up falling in love with each other. They move in the same house. But life has something else in store. Fights, friendship, love, hate and they move on.
Where do they head after their head-on clashes? How compatible are they together? Can the prudent Ambar and the reckless Nick ever bind together in marital bliss? Watch out as this colorful entertainer takes over in August.
