The strenuous efforts of director Ashok Kaul will at last see the light of the day. The experimental flick ‘Bhagmati - The Queen Of Fortunes’ starring Tabu and Milind Soman, have been in the making for a long time now. The film is ready to hit the screens and the audio of the film was launched recently. The innovative and the striking aspect of the film is the merge of live and animated character based on the fairy tale love saga of the prince of Hyderabad and Bhagmati. Other than the lead star, Hema Malini can be seen in a vital role in the film.
For this one of a kind Indian film, the music is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and Ravindra Jain. The lyrics have been penned by the likes of Nida Fazli, Jaideep, Ravindra Jain, Dr. Bashir Badr, Ashok Kaul and Abbas Tyrewala. With a galore of talents behind the credits of the audio, let’s see what’s on store!
A colorful and bright number opens the soundtrack. ‘Jiya Jaye Amma’ is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj with Nida Fazli doing the lyrics. The track is absolutely based on Indian music and the classical touch makes it likeable. Sung by the legendary Asha Bhonsle with assistance by the talented Roop Kumar Rathod, this is a song that’s sure to set the chords right, without promising much beyond that.
The composer-writer team repeats again for the second track ‘Ishq Abhi Tak Zinda Hai’. The theme is qawalli and the note hints at the universal feeling of love that is beyond time. The song is rendered enthusiastically by Vinod Sehgal and Fareed Sabri Jaipuri. This is more of a situational number and doesn’t cross the satisfactory mark.
Vishal Bhardwaj gets together with lyricist Jaideep for the track ‘Suraj Ki Aag Mein’. Here comes a change with this song that appears to be a mushy romantic number with some pleasing musical base. Roop Kumar Rathod and Sujata at the mike do a good job. The singing, music and the lyrics, all call for trumps.
Ravindra Jain single handedly manage the song ‘Falsafi O Falsafi’. He sings, writes and composes the situational track. A female voice accompanies him at the backdrop. The song doesn’t have the capability to storm and it turns out to be another ordinary track.
Follows a petite number by Ravindra Jain. This time Ravindra Jain concentrates on his composition alone with Suresh Wadkar wielding the mike for ‘Alvida’. This also doesn’t promise to be a puller and continues to fall in the average category like the other songs of the album.
Something different takes its turn with ‘Meri Jaan’ a solo number by Rekha Bhardwaj. The track begins with percussion dominating the scene to be taken over semi-classical tune soon after. Vishal Bhardwaj does the composition and Dr. Bashir Badr pens the lyrics of the song. The track stands out for the different genre it belongs to, however fails to fall in the category of the greats.
Vishal Bhardwaj brings his magical fervor back with ‘Kaise Kahan Kab’ crooned by Suresh Wadkar and penned by Abbas Tyrewala. A very melodious and romantic track indeed this is. This is certainly a track to look forward to.
The zest doesn’t carry far with another situational track appearing at the helm. ‘Prem Diwani’ has some interim classic touch. Director Ashok Kaul does some writing this time. Sung by Asha Bhonsle this is another track that joins the average line.
The soundtrack of ‘Bhagmati - The Queen Of Fortunes’ joins the bandwagon of those soundtracks that fail to make an impact on the listeners as well as the trade. They belong to the genre of passé, with little strength to appeal and stand out. The album is a downer and doesn’t offer much in regard of musical sense and sensibilities. As per the film, the situational tracks may work fine, but they certainly don’t render a listening pleasure.
