Producer: Suneel Darshan Director: Suneel Darshan Cast: Bipasha Basu, Bobby Deol, Priyanka Chopra Music: Nadeem Shravan Singers: Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Alisha Chinoy, Sonu Nigam
This is the second time Bobby Deol will be doing his second film titled ‘Barsaat’ in the span of his career. Trivia aside, let’s concentrate on the music for the time being!
‘Barsaat - A Sublime Love Story’ is a film by producer-director Suneel Darshan and other than Bobby Deol also stars Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. The music of the film is by Suneel Darshan’s favourite composer duo Nadeem Shravan and lyricist Sameer. Earlier the combination has rendered successful music like ‘Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love’, ‘Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya’, ‘Andaaz’ and the recent ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’.
The constant voice hovering over most of the songs is Alka Yagnik who sings the maximum number for the album. Other than that frontline ensemble of singers like Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam make up the songs.
Like Nadeem Shravan vintage style, the album opens with a melodious number by Kumar Sanu. ‘Barsaat Ke Din Aaye’ is scintillating and stirring too. The simple tune and lyrics make the track stand out. The track enlivens romance and Kumar Sanu’s voice very earnestly follows the criteria set out for the song. Alka Yagnik with her honey-touched vocal accompanies him and as always reigns. Melodic and pleasing is the verdict given to the song.
Alka Yagnik starts again for another romantic number ‘Badi Mushkil Hai’. The song speaks about a young girl crooning her heart out about the new feelings of love. Alka simplifies her voice to set into the mould of the song and give the chirpy and crispy rendition. Abhijeet with his evoking voice sets the tune of the song straight. This is another hatrick from the melody store of NS. Sonu Nigam the must for every romantic melodic soundtrack gears up for ‘Pyaar Aaya’. Though this is another addition to the list of love songs it is bit different from the happy go lucky number flowing so far. This duet from Sonu and Alka Yagnik is touching and slow paced. The delicate tune of the track is very pleasing to the ears and goes along to be another tuneful number.
A fun filled and frothy number that changes the temper of the audio flowing so far is ‘Nakhre Bhi Utha’. The base of the song is Arabian, western and bhangra music. It’s the first song of the album where Alka gets a break and Alisha Chinoy takes the place behind the mike. The song is full of mirth and will surely make one tap his toe to it.
Melody comes to life again with ‘Chori Chori Ladi Ankhiyan’ a Rajasthani folk song that opens in the voice of Sapna Awasthi. Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan follow her and passes muster again. The tempo of the song is very Indian. The strength of the track is the voice of Alka, simple lyrics of Sameer and the good tune of NS. Something similar but something better than the former track is ‘Aaja Aaja Piya’. This song is also loaded with Indian essence. The track is vintage Nadeem Shravan style and takes one back to their hits. This is a solo number for Alka Yagnik and she as usual gives out a rendition in sheer comfort.
Following next is another solo number from her ‘Maine Tumse Pyaar Bahaut Kiya’ a song that reminds one of some old classics. This is a sad number relating the pain and sufferings of a ditched heart by a lover.
‘Saajan Saajan Saajan’ is the third song of the album that belongs to the song and dance category. This is also a traditional type foot tapping song without the aid of western instruments. The song will be liked by all and especially in the interiors of India, the album is going to rock.
Overall the songs are good and some may also head as chartbusters. The songs have a universal appeal and this is one of the striking facts of the album. The eight tracks so far gave loaded entertainment and pleased us, either through melody or being foot-thumping and frothy ones. Nadeem Shravan walks away with applaud again for keeping their trademark of rendering hits and keeping Indian music alive through their melody.
