Producer: Howly Potter Director: Kamal Cast: Mammootty, Nayanthara, Sarada, Bala Chandra Menon, Geetu Mohandas Music: Mohan Sitara
‘Raapakal’ is a family entertainer starring Mamootty, which is very much in line with films like ‘Valsalyam’, ‘Azhakiye Ravanan’, ‘Arayannagalude Veedu’ and ‘Kazhcha’. The female lead is played by Sarada and the direction is by Kamal who is not short of creating magic again. The film is rich in direction and the awesome performance by the talented artiste.
Krishnan (Mammootty) is the pillar of strength of Easwaramangalam Kovilakam an aristocratic Nair house, where he dwells with Saraswathi Amma (Sarada). Krishnan came to the house when he was very young and served as a loyal servant. Krishnan adores Saraswathi Amma very much and she lives with him as her children have taken refuge to urban life.
Saraswathi Amma’s children and family members decide to come to their place and have a get together. A maid Gowri (Nayantara) is called for help in the kitchen. The festive atmosphere of the ancestral home turn gloom when it’s revealed that everybody wants a partition and their share of the property.
Saraswathi Amma leaves for the city but she finds it heard to live without Krishnan. Gowri also adds to the suspense of her identity. Unveil this emotional story in the theatres!
Mammootty and Sarada give their best shot and appear fine. Nayantara also makes her role as appealing and convincing as possible. Salim Kumar, Janardhanan, Geetu Mohandas, Balachandra Menon and Vijayaraghavan in the supporting role are apt.
The drowning factor of the film is its predictable storyline, which looks similar to films like ‘Thingalazhcha Nalla Divasam’ and ‘Valsalyam’. Mohan Sitara has done the music of the film and they gel well with the film, though they sound like rehash of classics. The simple story and the earthy characters make the film appear different amidst the ongoing trend of films.
