The much-awaited ‘Super’ had at last hit the theaters. The film had been drawing much hype since the last few days of its release and the audience has been eagerly waiting to watch what the film unfolds. ‘Super’ is a film by Puri Jagannath who have taken care of the story, dialogues, screenplay and direction. Nagarjuna Akkineni has produced this mega budget flick.

The film is a mix of pluses and minuses. The attraction and appeal holds steady with the good-looking curvy figured heroines, technical tricks, a good amount of oomph, outstanding climax and a fabulous musical score. These are the strength of the film as a whole and provide hearty entertainment through the ingredients. However the good feel factor ends then and there. The drawback of the film is the lack of potentiality to stand as a pillar for it. It’s the gripping and enthralling shots of the climax part at Goa inspired from the ‘The Italian Job’, which holds the film from drowning.

The protagonist of the film Akhil (Nagarjuna) runs a taxi-shed. He meets doctor Siri Valli (Ayesha Takia) and falls in love with her. Her father meets an accident and he dies. Siri Valli than moves to her brother Sonu’s (Sonu Sood) place. Sonu and Akhil have a fissure between each other. The reason for their detestation unfolds in a flashback.

Sonu and Akhil were best of buddies at a time and shared a close rapport. Sonu had a sister Sasha (Anushka) who was head over heels in love with Akhil. Owing to the hardship of life all the three turn to robbery. When Sasha proposes Akhil her love, he doesn’t accept it. She threatens him saying that if he doesn’t accept her, she would commit suicide. Unfortunately she gets killed one day Sonu holds Akhil responsible for it. And this is the reason of his hatred for Akhil.

In the climax it is revealed that Sasha is actually killed by a gang and so the enemies turn friends again and avenge the people who killed Sasha.

Nagarjuna has looked chic throughout the film with his new hairstyle and attitude. In acting department he appears fine. However he doesn’t indulge in any mind-blowing stunts. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood had carried with aplomb the gritty role. He has conceded the action sequences with style. Ayesha Takia and Anushka in the section of skin show have done a good job. Shayaji Shinde, Ali and Brahamanandam are apt.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the Goa sequences are the best in the film and are a feast to the eyes. The first half of the film has nothing to offer and it is not indulging at all. However the second half comes as a respite and helps the film progress. The superb songs have been placed wrongly and it kills it all. On the technical side the film is plump but the poor screenplay by Poori Jagannath doesn’t pass muster. The dialogue by Poori is also lewd and there are also many lewd gestures in the film.

Sandeep Chowtha has given an ear tuning music and needless to say is another key strength of the film. Stunt master Alla Amin Ghani has done an incredible job in his department. He is truly the master of the film. Cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is also commendable. In true sense of the term, the film is not a replica of the film ‘Dhoom’. It’s only the initial parts, which hint at it, otherwise the film stands on its own.

If you’re ready to satisfy yourself with some cool film, loaded on the technical side but a downer from the content point of view, then you can certainly go for this film.  Probably it’s the film that will be avoided by the family audience.
