‘Sehar’ is a serious drama. It’s a hard-hitting, gritty and practical film directed and written by debutante Kabeer Kaushik. Ashvin J Patel produces the film under Choice Films banner.
The word ‘Sehar’ means morning in Urdu. ‘Sehar’ means a new beginning. And indeed it is for Arshad Warsi who has so far divulged in light and comedy roles, goes for a transformation with the role of a serious police officer. ‘Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye’ pairing Arshad Warsi and Mahima Chaudhary didn’t turn up to be a memorable film. The lead cast pair again here and we hope they hit the fence for the maximum this time.
Arshad plays a cop and Mahima rip-roars with her glam. The stream of talented artistes like Pankaj Kapoor, Sushant Singh, Suhasini Mulay and Pratima Kazmi also floods the screen. As for the music, it’s by Daniel B George and the lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire and Dr. Nilanjana Kishore.
Inspired by real-life incidents, the story is about a newly appointed SSP of Lucknow Ajay Kumar (Arshad Warsi). The film outlines his tale, as he brings together and makes a group of some loyal police officers under Special Task Force. To wipe away crime in Uttar Pradesh, tops the agenda of the force. The film in the process throws light on the railway contracts, ISI association, politician-Mafia-police-builder nexus, criminal gangs, stiff bureaucracy and criminalization of University students, the ingredients that makes UP the most eligible place for crimes.
One may say that these are the topics that we’ve come across many times in films. That is true for the film offers nothing new other than the approach, which makes it distinct and uniquely flavoured.
