Bhadran and Mohanlal worked together in Spadikam. They’re together again for Udayon. Mohanlal has last played a double role in Ravana Prabhu. In this film too he appears in a dual role of a father and son. The film also stars Nana Patekar. He plays the villain.  Mohanlal and Nana Patekar are glad to work together. Others in the important roles are Sreeraman and Biman Raghu. The film is produced by Varnachitra.

Soornad Kunju had in his youth come to a forestland with ten kilograms of tapioca. He became a land grabber of the forest along with others. His dedication and hard work made him establish cardamom and rubber estates on that land. He wished his son Soornad Papayi to be like him and become a plantation owner. But he was reluctant to do so for he believed his father was a lawbreaker and has reached to the top after committing crimes. Perumal (Nana Patekar) is a village headman. He is a master of places like Theni and Kambam. He gives judgment his own way.

Mohanlal appears in the role of Soornad Kunju (father), Soornad Papayi (son) and also as father to Innocent. The story is the representation of the early settler in Central Travancore who had taken hold of the forestland and formed a party to protect themselves. The illicit method that they took to become rich was through the plantation of marijuana (ganja) and making illicit liquor. The film has cinematography by Ramachandra Babu. Ouespachan has scored the music for the film.
